  • Quite Nice Boobs On Naughty Schoolgirls and other Maple-y things

*Small Zamboni for knowing what that is*

So our library has found that when we look for ourselves on Facebook,we get sent to a much bigger fancier library with the same name in Canada. So we've linked up with them. And for Canada Day,we will be having a small display and a little quiz-15-20 fun questions to find out about Canada.
Apart from Bryan Adams,Celine Dion, ice hockey, the Stanley Cup,getting cold, being very large and using funny metric things, what else is there that we can ask them aboot?

Rush (the band, not the movie), Paul Schaffer, beer, maple syrup, Canadian football, Canadian bacon (or as they call it, back bacon), Nunavut, Alanis Morissette, Alannah Myles, and sadly, Justin Bieber.

Curling (which they apparently treat like a real sport-- there's even a movie about it "Men with Brooms")

        Ask about our "homo milk"!
Ask about the Toronto FC (soccer) and the Toronto Marlies (hockey, but not NHL).
Ask about our Smarties and other snacks.
Ask about our poutine and other junk food.

You mean how the rest of the world calls it. (the term "Canadian bacon" is exclusively an American term)

We have some really cool famous Canadians, making up completely for Bieber:
Michael J Fox, John Candy, Jim Carrey (okay, we're sorry about him too), Mike Myers, Pam Anderson, Dan Aykroyd, Rick Moranis, Leslie Nielsen, Eugene Levy, Howie Mandel and Kiefer Sutherland.

Lester B Pearson - Only Canadian to win a nobel peace prize - organizing the UN Emergency Force to help solve the Suez Crisis (basically invented peacekeeping troops)

The tragically hip, who aren't internationally famous but should be.

As far as 'ice hockey' goes, never heard of the stuff. We have road hockey, ball hockey, pond hockey, sledge hockey and hockey.

Canadian inventions - Pablum, snowmobiles, walkie-talkies, snow blowers, basketball, insulin, and standard time

Canadian politics - for a while we had a federal separatist party as the official opposition.
Pain and suffering are inevitable...misery is optional.

Not 100% Canada (deals with U.S. highways), but from which Interstate can you cross into Canada either Northbound or Southbound? I75 - Northbound at Sault St. Marie, Southbound at Windsor (twist of a river puts Windsor south of Detroit).

Now, let's see... there's comics (not only Canadian characters like Wolverine, Deadpool and Scott Pilgrim, but creators like John Byrne, Todd McFarlane, Joe Shuster (co-creator of Superman), Dave Sim (creator of Cerebus the Aardvark, longest running indie comic (300 issues, 25 years)).

The band Great Big Sea, or even Spirit of the West. There are actually quite a few Canadian bands/singers that are pretty good (no, Justin Bieber does not fit that definition as far as I'm concerned). For the literary side of things, how about a generous helping of Farley Mowat - most people of my generation likely read 'Owls in the Family' when they were in elementary school. The Red River Rebellion and Louis Riel is an interesting bit of history to learn about as well.

Jubilee Riots (formerly Enter the Haggis) also belong on the list of really good Canadian bands.
