Arrghh!!!! I hate ants! They've been trying for the past few days to invade our house. Ants in my BED! BLLLARRRGHHHHHH! *shudder* I think we've beaten them back, though. Hopefully. The next day or two will show. Diatomaceous earth in the crawlspace underneath (we think the nest was under the house, couldn't find any sign of one walking around outside) and ant baits where we've seen them inside. The ants went bonzo over the baits for several hours, but I don't see any signs of any living ants inside now. Hopefully this is a good sign and not just them regrouping to try again somewhere else inside.

Want to make sure of it, keep putting traps down. Even when they appear to be gone you should put some traps down...it's warm so they'll be all over the place!

The area I live in has a huge bug problem, we can never get rid of them completely but we keep most of them away. We seem to get crickets in the house every spring, too. We're planning on moving next year, but until then, we're just glad we're not completely infested. A beetle here or a couple ants there aren't a problem to us anymore. The fact that jellyfish have survived for 650 million years despite not having brains gives hope to many people.
You would have to be incredibly dense for the world to revolve around you.

It's kind of pricey, but fresh ground cinnamon around windows, doors, and any cracks works great. And it smells nice.At the conclusion of an Irish wedding, the priest said "Everybody please hug the person who has made your life worth living. The bartender was nearly crushed to death.

I plan to keep the bait traps, replacing them every few months. I'll also be putting boric acid down, and will probably have our pest control folks do more DE under the house in a month or so.
Mathnerd, I'd love to be able to use fresh ground cinnamon, but it would result in having fine red dust all over inside the house. Our house is slightly less drafty than, say, an old barn. You're only delaying the inevitable, you run at your own expense. The repo man gets paid to chase you. ~Argabarga

I've had some luck on windows with cinnamon oil, but it's not as good as the ground stuff. But yeah, if your house is drafty, that's a no-go. I just prefer it to borax if I can afford it because it smells nicer.

The boric acid/sugar water bait is good, but if you can find it, there's a product called "Extinguish" that will flat KILL a colony in 24 hours. We've even had nearby colonies stealing the stuff from the newly dead colony. Just takes a half tablespoon of the stuff near the colony and they go nuts hauling death home.

Update: It's been over 48 hours since I saw an ant in the house. I'm going to tentatively assume that the colony is now dead. *insert Grumpy Cat image* GOOD. Still going to get some boric acid and lay down around the perimeter inside, I do NOT want to do this again anytime soon. You're only delaying the inevitable, you run at your own expense. I've heard that mixing powdered sugar with baking soda half and half helps too. They want the sugar but cannot separate it from the baking soda, and their bodies cannot process the baking soda so it kills them. Just sprinkle some near where you see them regularly. You'll see a brief increase, then buh-bye."Oh, the strawberries don't taste as they used to and the thighs of women have lost their clutch!"

I'll have to try that, as I have both handy.Quoth Heksubah View PostI've heard that mixing powdered sugar with baking soda half and half helps too. Not to mention, I have pets indoors. So using chemicals are out, as I don't want to run the risk of one of the babies getting into the trap and getting sick.

I was gonna say, for those of you who have indoor pets, be careful what you put down inside the house. I heard a story one person told on a pet rabbit forum that had put some rat poison out & then forgot about it, apparently her bunny had run of the house & got into the poison

*nod* That's been a big consideration for me.
