  • Another unpleasant specimen of humanity caged away...

To cut a long story short, back in September I had some problems with a computer hacker.

This guy had not just created a virus-this one filled your computer with child porn and sent the virus on to everyone in your contact list so they would have it too.
He also took over the computer which meant if you attempted to delete these pics,he could see what you were doing-and told you so via a little chatbox.

He was also able to take over the webcam so he could take a picture of you-which he claimed to then pass to the police together with the screenshots unless you paid money into an account.

Fortunately, this evil genius was somewhat lacking in the brains department as he gave the account for it to be paid to as his own PayPal account. And his own bank account. Which was swiftly passed on to the police.

Our genius was arrested and has now pled guilty to THIRTY THREE charges of blackmail, computer hacking, making and distributing child porn and will be able to consider where his brilliant plan went awry from the cell where he will be calling home for the next 5 1/2 years.

Now hopefully I can retrieve my computer from its home in the evidence suite where it has been living from September-after it has been well and truly cleaned out with

Five and a half years is too good for this lowlife.

Glad to hear he's been dealt with!

Reminds me of the guy who *used to* live next door to us (he's currently rotting away in prison for a few years - I think he got maybe 15/no parole). Middle-aged-to-older guy, he was finally nailed and, later, convicted of possession of porn of just about every variety you can think of -- mostly child porn -- and when the cops searched his house, they walked out with at least two pickup truck beds packed full of the stuff, in addition to the computers/hard drives he had filled with it

Doubly creepy because there are quite a few kids who live in this neighborhood. Fortunately for them, he kept to himself.

His extended family apparently either isn't interested in selling his now-empty house (I can't imagine why not...No buyers, perhaps? ), tho they do maintain the property from time to time.

It sucks that you got targeted by this creep, but at least he's been caught, and there's one less on the streets. I hope you can get your computer totally cleaned up and back to normal very quickly.

Kit, glad you were able to help the police catch this nasty person. Hope you get your computer back!

            Yikes.

Um. What would have happened if you had totally disconnected from the internet and used a rescue disc with stuff like malware cleaners and such?

See, my first reaction to stuff like that is to immediately go ofline and use a disc my computer geek buddy made for me [well, not for this computer yet, but all my previous computers he made special rescue discs for suited to whichever version of windows and such were on them. He is making it and sending it to me next week - he got stuck in Bulgaria for the past 3 weeks.]

You forget, "Sex Offender Registry" laws are a far worse punishment than 20 years in prison.

With a normal crime, you do your time, then you go.

With a Sex crime, you do your time, you are barred from living within "x" of certain locations, barred from many locations, so on and so forth.

Kit, I want to thank you for taking this to the police. You did your nation and everyone who lives here a great service.

You make a good point, but my opinion still stands. He should get more time locked up before he's forced into the rest of that punishment.

That would have been my reaction as well. All I'd have to do, is pull out the network plug and disable the wifi by temporarily shutting off the router. After my employer was the victim of a nasty hacker last year, I keep such things around constantly

If i were you, I'd probably have the hard drives taken out and utterly destroy them, and then start fresh with new hard drives.
