  • Why was I born so weird?

Lately I've been reading El Goonish Shive and when it came to the transformation ray, something inside made me wish I had it. I'd use it to make myself female [I am a guy] but I'm not Trans and I don't wanna be a woman permanantly, nor do I feel like a female in a male body. I just always wished I could freely switch between sexes at whim. Why did I have to be born so weird and like a freak? I mean I have nothing against people who are trans and want to get sex changes.

Why does wanting more options make you weird or a freak? If I had access to something that would let me switch genders as desired, I'd use it too. Hah! Imagine never having to go looking for someone with more muscles to get something open! And I'd SO totally just skip that time of the month altogether, go be a guy for a week. So, no, doesn't strike me as strange at all.

It's not weird, I've wondered what it would be like to be a guy sometimes, but I'm perfectly happy the way I am (well, besides monthly womanly issues, but that's normal too).

I think we're a lot more gender fluid than we think. I'm a woman and am happy to be one but would occasionally be interested in finding out what it'd be like to be a mad physically. There's nothing wrong with not being 'normal'. In reality people are more complicated.
How was I supposed to know someone was slipping you Birth Control in the food I've been making for you lately?

Nope, I don't see anything weird about it. Everyone wants to be something or someone different on occasion (or even all the time), and that's perfectly normal. A comic like EGS (and there are many, MANY comics that use genderswap gags/themes out there, most just don't do it as well) is one that presents a *temporary* method of doing so. One could argue that having the option to switch back and forth between forms -- whatever they may be -- is part of why EGS is still around after all these years...It is more "safe," and less "forceful," for lack of a better word. The fact that he (very consciously) doesn't bring sex into the equation probably helps maintain its appeal to the userbase.

If there's one thing I've learned in my years on this earth, OP, it's that there is no such thing as "normal." Only you can define what is and/or isn't normal for yourself, don't let society do it.

You're not weird, my dear. Genderfluid, maybe. I'm still learning about this, but one thing I do know: We all have both male and female within us, we just manifest it differently.

You are human, and gender is not binary. There are multiple variations and ways of expressing gender.

Perhaps someone here on the forum knows of a good website or organization you could call or visit for more information. You're certainly not alone in this, and it might be good to read about or talk to others who feel the same way.
When you start at zero, everything's progress.

It just feels weird that I'm depressed about it but I guess I understand more now.

Genderfluid is so common there's a name for it.

If you contact your local ... er, there's many acronyms. QUILTBAG is one of the many acronyms that tries to be inclusive. (queer and questioning, intersex, lesbian, transgender and two-spirit, bisexual, asexual and ally, and gay and genderqueer)

Anyway, contact your local 'hey we're not straight cisgender or 'normal', and we're okay with it' group. Ask if they have events where you can meet other local genderfluid or otherwise genderqueer people.

(Genderqueer is one of the terms that covers anyone who isn't 'cisgender'. Cisgender - roughly speaking - means 'definitely male' or 'definitely female' and comfortable with this binary gender identity.)

Based purely on what you've said, I think your variant of genderqueer is genderfluid: ie, you'd be happiest if you could have a male or female body depending on your current gender-mood. Maybe you'd want a neuter body sometimes.

Anyway: I think you might benefit from meeting other people in a setting where you can feel comfortable talking - or just listening - about varied gender identity. Or not talking about it, if you want.
Sometimes at such events, people just talk about ordinary topics: it's just nice being someplace where you CAN talk about it, without having people stare at you like you're a Martian.

                  2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
                  3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
                  4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.

... you have about..... 1000 comics until you find the term your looking for. Its gender fluid. Trust me i understand, sometimes i feel more male than female but i do lean towards female. There are plenty of people who are gender fluid or gender neutral or androgynous or gender different. yeah there are a lot of 'men' and 'women' but there are people who don't solely identify one way.

A sig file I recall from long ago:

"Eenie, meenie,, minie, mo. Today I dress from *this* side of the closet..."

That sounds like you. And like I'd like to be (it's funny, I actually (have* my large closet split down the middle with "guy" stuff on one side and "gal" on the other)

Yeah, you do have a long way to go -- but it's a great read, and the art improves over time ^_^ Well worth the effort, and he's still actively updating the site. Once you catch up, you have the Sketchbook entries and the EGS: NP (newspaper-style comics) to go through. Fortunately, the latter are very seldom canon, and the former never are. Hopefully he'll re-release books/make new ones at some point soon. Right now, Shive is going back through old story arcs and adding commentaries where none were before.

Now if I could wear my skirt out in public without anyone (for example my own mother) having a coronary. I know I shouldn't give a turkey what anyone thinks but I somehow still do. I feel like I would put my mom to shame or something.

You can at QUILTBAG (or LGBTI) events. Or at least, I know for sure that you can at QUILTBAG events where I live: I know many of the people personally, and the largest reaction you'd have would be style discussions.

It would be much better if you could just wear a skirt and the hell with it, I know. But at least there's a safe space where you can.
