  • Growing up is scary....

So....I've not been posting a lot here recently because of my job actually being REALLY great, and classes are getting more and more hectic....but I'm surviving...

Then I went and talked with my adviser about my upcoming graduation (HOPEFULLY fall 2016)......and we talking about grad school, and what I'm interested in for my future.

Heavy talk, but since I'm interesting in the recruiting side of Human Resources, we focused on that, and what I'm looking for ultimately.

So we ended up talking about HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems), and how a masters degree will be almost required for that.

The problem is my school does not have a Masters program in HR, just an undergraduate.

Some of the programs are WAY out of state for me....which means uprooting everything i have here and moving for 2-3 more years, then finding a job, somewhere.

I'm not saying I'm afraid of change, but its looking like New York state is the closest university that has the type of accreditation I am looking for (only 100 universities in the US carries this for business schools). I live down in the deep south...

and I have to admit this is scaring the pants off of me.
It is by snark alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the juice of the coffee bean that thoughts acquire 'tude, the lips acquire mouthiness, the glares become a warning.

If you're that leery of it, consider taking a year off from school before starting on the master's program, and just stick with your job. It's not uncommon and shouldn't affect your acceptance to a program later; it might actually increase your chances. It will give you time to think and for new opportunities to pop up.

OR, if there's a place that doesn't scare you as badly, try there instead. Even if it's not as close.

I may do the year off thing, get some real experience in human resources here locally and see if that points me in a direction.

I like the aspect of recruitment of human resources and HAVE talked with my advisor about all this and what to look for in a grad program.
