  • I need to vent a bit

The last month has been the worst of my life. Let's add it up, shall we?

My father passed away, suddenly, about a month ago. It was just before his birthday. I won't get too into detail to keep myself obfuscated here... Let's just say it was very fast. Gone less than a week after the critical incident.

He died almost exactly a month before my birthday.

My job "laid me off" practically the day he died. Years of fucking devotion and saving their ass down the drain without warning.

That caused major money issues. Didn't help that my husband was out of work for a bit being there for me.

I'm well over 600 in vet bills as one of my dogs are very sick. Hours of work caring for him every day.

I am having health issues myself... Some days I can barely walk. Hurts like hell.

    Unemployment was denied.

Just tried to use my laptop... Screen is cracked.

I don't know. I feel really depressed and tired and sore.

    It gets better, right??

If you were laid off you should get unemployment. Put in an appeal.

Bring all the paperwork you can - vet bills, utility and grocery bills, etc. The more the better. In my experience, Appealing for UE usually gets you the benefit of the doubt if you have done even the basic amount of homework/brought documentation, resulting in you (normally) getting benefits until the Appeal is done. The only downside is, if the appeal is denied, you owe that money back.

Did they give you any pink slip or anything indicating why you were terminated, or even THAT you were terminated? If the pink slip doesn't mention a negative reason as the cause, that's a HUGE plus in your favor. I've had two jobs where I won the appeal with less than half an hour on the phone with the Arbitrator simply because my pink slip flatly contradicted the blatant lies my employer gave them for the termination. If you hear the arbitrator say something like "Well, if these issues they listed were so important, why were they never mentioned before now...?" -- you're likely winning.

Go ahead and apply for SNAP/foodstamps now, if possible. Nothing wrong with that, and it will help take some of the lead off of your back.

Good luck on your appeal. As long as the reason was not for serious misconduct, your appeal should go through.
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

            *offers all the hugs*

I'd offer to help you fix your laptop, but I am likely too far away. I hope someone closer fixes it, though.

For what it's worth, the offer makes me feel better. 😊
              Thanks!

                  Bit of an update...

I eventually got unemployment despite certain lies. I had paperwork that saved me.

The sick dog topped 800 in vet bills and passed away about a month ago.

My back is... Ok... But now I've had intestinal issues for 2 months. Sigh.

One thing gets better and the rest falls to crap.

Hang in there. Things will get better. May be later rather than sooner, but they'll get better.
