  • My new baby (of the feathered variety)!

Yesterday we welcomed a new flock member. He's a 9(ish) year old senegal parrot I've renamed Leopold. We didn't like his old name, and he didn't seem to respond to it, so we changed it. Everybody is settling in nicely. Goofy, the Evil Attack Parrot (an amazon), is a little leery of him, but isn't acting out, just giving him the side-eye, and Cookie, the 25 year old cockatiel is ignoring him completely, as expected. Cookie pretty much stares at the wall all the time anyway, so I'm not surprised he didn't react to the new guy. Of course I must share pictures.

What a pretty bird! Does he talk?

Awww, how cute! He looks like a bird we used to have. I love senegal parrots.

Thanks. He doesn't talk that I know of, but has quite the chirp on him when he wants to lodge a complaint. So far his biggest complaints are me leaving the room and me putting him back in his cage. He's well on his way to spoiled rotten.

He's beautiful! Makes me want another bird, but I think my parrotlet Napoleon wouldn't like that much as he's very territorial when it comes to me LOL Before I can even handle one of my pet rats I have to cover his cage because he will start squawking if he sees me even near their cage - he thinks that all my skritches should go only to him!

Goofy isn't particularly thrilled with the intruder. He's not reacting as badly as we predicted he would, but he's not totally happy. He's being a little testier than normal (and since he's an Amazon, normally he's pretty testy) and is not as friendly to BF as he usually is, but is oddly being more friendly to me. For now we have them in separate rooms but in eyesight of each other so they can adjust. Cookie, the elderly cockatiel acts like he hasn't even noticed the new bird.

How did I miss this thread? I just want to let him perch on my finger. And try to pet his little birdie head. Birds are special.

Thanks! I'm more in love with him every day. He's not a big fan of scritches just yet, but he does like to nuzzle in the crook of my arm or at the spot where the side of my neck meets my shoulder. He's definitely living up to the Senegal reputation of having a macaw sized attitude packed into a tiny little body. He fits right in around here. The bird room is way too busy for him to get enough sleep at night so I've set up a second night time cage. He has let me know in no uncertain terms what he thinks of this. It's okay though. I'd rather have two tantrums (one at night when he goes to bed and one in the morning when I bring him back upstairs) than deal with a cranky, tired parrot with a bad attitude.

I completely understand not wanting to deal with a cranky, tired parrot even without the bad attitude! Leopold is such a handsome boy - if you were local I'd be begging to come meet him I love birds but pretty much have to live vicariously through others due to my Napoleon being a territorial little shit.

This morning seemed to go a little better. He wasn't in such a snit but was still grumpy. He ate breakfast, then came out and has been sitting on my shoulder preening himself and watching "Birdie TV" out the window ever since.

Would it be considered thread-hijacking to post a picture of my own little featherhead, especially since she's not a parrot?

Probably, but I don't think anybody would mind.
