  • My Diet is Better than Yours

Has anyone else been watching the new 'biggest loser' type show on ABC?

I actually quite like it. The idea is that they each get a coach representing their own diet. The contestants are fighting to win 50,000 dollars - not much compared to other shows - but they can't be eliminated or anything. They can change their coach only once, switching to a new diet plan.

I like it because it's all about finding diets that are actually lifestyle changes and can be sustained long term. It's not about killing yourself in workouts where you get yelled at.

    What do you guys think?

Unfortunately, I can't say much on these type of shows without possibly venturing into fratching territory...

I haven't seen that one, but I hold rather strong negative opinions on the original version of it, and I refuse to watch it

Google around for a Cracked expose on at least one of those shows. Kind of eye-opening...

Any more, though, and we'd probably veer off into Fratching territory...

The other, of course, involves orcs." -- John Rogers

What mjr said. ^_^ Keep it on-topic, all, and we won't have no trouble 'round here.

As for the show -- I wish the contestants the best. Diets are indeed hard to stick with (especially without a "coach" hounding you, albeit with your best interests in mind). This, I know from experience.

I think part of the problem about diets is the phrase "on a diet", as in, "I'm going on a diet".

You're (in a general sense) already "on a diet", no matter what you eat. Your diet is whatever you regularly eat.

So a more appropriate phrase would be "I'm changing my diet".

I changed my diet a couple of months back. I started eating leaner meats, more greens/vegetables, and less sugars. I also started an exercise program. It's paid off so far.

Following the topic veer to 'changing your diet', I just had some blood test results. Everything is improved, except for one (and that could be due to medication).

The only notable change to my lifestyle? At least one salad sandwich a day. Not specifically replacing a meal, other than the fact that it occupies a 'hunger' spot.

              Recipe:
Bread (sometimes white, sometimes multigrain, sometimes wheat, sometimes a flatbread).
No butter, but instead a spread of a soft cheese or a yoghurt based dip. Or avocado. Or hummus. Most often, Tzatiki or a spring onion-in-soft-cheese dip.
One or two thin-cut slices of ham or beef or turkey or chicken.
              Mixed leafy greens.
Any or all of tomato, cucumber, purple/red onion, spring onion, capsicum (bell pepper).
Anything Bast found at the grocer that's worth experimenting with adding.
              Seshat's self-help guide:
              1. Would you rather be right, or get the result you want?
              2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
              3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
              4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.
