A couple of weeks ago, I ordered two identical necklaces from an etsy shop. My daughter and her best friend have birthday's 3 days apart, and they are DESPERATE to find an angelic rune necklace from the City of Bones books/movies/TV show. So I found them. When I ordered, I read the shops policies, and requested that, if at all possible, the necklaces be delivered by 2/26.

2 days ago, I received ONE necklace in the mail. Only one. I only received one shipping notification. I double checked my order, and made sure that I ordered, and paid for, 2 necklaces. So I contacted the shop using the etsy conversation system (by their request, no emails). I asked if they were shipping the second necklace separately for some reason, or if there was a mistake made? No response. I messaged again this morning, still no response. They have over 600 reviews, mostly positive, so they appear to be an active shop, you would think they would check their account fairly often. They also ship from other places on the internet that I noticed when looking for the necklaces.

I've given up on it being here by the 26th, which is disappointing, because I wanted to give them together. I have never had a problem with any etsy shop before, and I've ordered a lot from them. How long should I wait for an acknowledgement before making a formal complaint? I'm a little impatient, but 2 days seems like they should have been able to say "Hey, we're looking into it". The message system includes my order number and information automatically.

Was there an estimated delivery day? If so, and it has passed, you can issue a formal complaint. If it hasn't passed yet then you might want to wait until then, since the other necklace very well may be in the mail right now.

Looking at the account, it has one "shipping" date, and an "arrival" date. there isn't a second one in there. Here's all that I see

I would initiate a formal complaint now, if the shop owner hasn't responded to you yet. After all, you can always indicate that the issue was resolved successfully, if it is.

So they finally responded back and told me
Hello, the second one is on the way, it should be there in 3-4 days thank you!
Which really makes me think that they screwed up, didn't send the second one and are covering their asses. The shipping policies on their page say that things take 2-3 days to ship out. We are working on 2 weeks now.

Are they handmade? They might have thought they had two prepared but only had one, then had to rush to make the second.

I've seen the shop name all over the internet, with these specific necklaces for sale, I believe they are handmade. their shipping policy states 2-3 days to be shipped from order time, longer if you customize it (I did not). I guess, even if they did not have a second prepared, I would have liked them to tell me that, or tell me that they messed up.

Yeah, sounds like they had to make one on the fly for you. They really should've told you that up front. I know I always do in a situation like that. :/

I agree that it sounds like they had to make a second on the fly.

Unless something has changed since last I checked, Etsy's own rules state that they shouldn't be selling items that are in their store in any other venue while the Etsy listings are still active, to prevent multiple people from buying the same single item simultaneously. Otherwise you run into situations where you have, say, three plushes listed on Etsy, and someone buys one on a different site while someone else wants all three on Etsy. Then you've sold four but only have three made.

Which is why I put my shop in vacation mode when I go to conventions, and then adjust the inventory before taking it out of vacation mode. Prevents that problem from happening.

The second necklace came yesterday. I gave my first 3 star review on Etsy, and included that it was for the utter lack of communication. They have beautiful things, but I probably won't buy from them.

I DID just do my first ever facebook purchase though. Hand Painted sugar skull?? Yes please!!
