I grew up on the north end of tornado alley and have never seen a live tornado. Would like to keep it that way. 3.5 miles was my closest. Happened a few years ago.
Stay safe.

i think this is the closest to one i have been, i have seen them live from a distance. the strangest thing was after it passed we got a wicked amount of rain and pea to marble sized hail then sudden blue skies. Video of it hitting the housing addition just south of me.This is a drama-free zone; violators will be slapped. -Irving Patrick Freleigh

We just had an EF-1 tear through the Southeast side of town last week -- on April Fools' Day of all days x.x Damaged or destroyed at least a dozen homes, and 12K people lost power. Apparently, it was one of many in the MS delta area spawned by a storm system that then went on to cause similar havoc further East."For a musician, the SNES sound engine is like using Crayola Crayons. It was snowing so hard here a bit ago, it was hard to see across the street. The only good thing is it's melting right away when it hits the ground. Also, yeah, warmer temps would be nice.Quoth Irving Patrick Freleigh View Post

Or a FIRENADO!!!!! I'm sure SyFy already has a movie in the works, if it hasn't been released already...Quoth mjr View PostScarier than a Tornado? A Sharknado.
For us, as Irv mentioned above, the weather craziness as of late has been snow. Got about four inches of the stuff this past Monday (after having already gotten a couple of inches the day before), and I actually ended up revving up the snowblower to clear the driveway (mainly to burn off some of the gas in the tank). Here are two views from outside our front door while the storm was still ongoing:

Saw a tornado once, on a road trip through Nebraska. Not being from the flatlands, I had, and still have, absolutely no idea what to do when you see a tornado rumble past while you're in a car. I assume ditches are involved.
Even though I strongly remember a distinct funnel, I still disbelieved the evidence of mine own eyes until I got to a motel and tuned in to the local weather report. They confirmed that yep, t'were a tornader, Dorothy. Not to say Maine doesn't get them, but the conditions are not favorable.
We're not "supposed" to get earthquakes, either, but apparently the plates around here didn't get that memo...

^This whole post is amusing to me, especially identifying with having no idea what to do in case of a tornado. "I assume ditches are involved." lol And I live in a tornado zone, even."Is it hot in here to you? It's very warm, isn't it?"--Nero, probably
