  • Halloween is kinda strange...

Think about it: We spend all year telling kids not to take candy from strangers, about "stranger danger" and so forth...

    Except on Halloween.

Then it's, "Sure! Go up to that house of those people you don't know, knock on the door, and ask for candy!"

Am I the only one who finds that weird?

I don't. Little kids always have their parents with them, and older kids usually travel in packs, and hopefully by the time they hit 8 or so they've got the stranger danger thing down and won't do anything too stupid. Around here it would be really hard to drag a kid into your house or anything anyway, as most people sit on their porches to hand out candy and there are quite a few trick-or-treaters, so there are always people around to hear if a kid screamed.

They avoid that here by having the kiddos come to 'trunk-or-treats' at the local churches. One down the road even had hot dogs one year! It was great. When I was younger we would just go to the wealthier subdivision and trick or treat there

That does sound nice. When we lived in AZ, they'd set up a carnival in Tempe over Halloween. I wish they'd do that here.

My kids don't trick-or-treat for that reason, mjr. But we also don't eat a lot of candy.

Our Halloweens are spent with popcorn and old black and white monster movies from the 50's. The cheesier the better.

My son still trick-or-treats. My wife also likes to make lasagne (she calls it "blood and guts casserole"), and we read "The Raven" and "The Telltale Heart" out loud.

Cheesy? Do they have to be from the 1950's? If you wanna go with Cheesy, what about "Young Frankenstein"? It's originally in black and white (shot that way on purpose, even though it was made in the 1970's).

Do they know about Mystery Science Theater 3000? I think they'd love the wisecracks.

I really like it because I'm a hover momma and I felt way more comfortable having her in a semi enclosed area for trick-or-treating.

YEAH MST3K TURKEY DAY. If we stayed home for TG that was always a welcome relief AND we had to blast Alice's Restaurant at least once.

Is it wrong that once on Halloween I poured purple paint in the driveway and told kids Barney got run over?
