  • Pokemon GO!

So my mom decided she had to have pokemon go, because it looked fun.

My mom being my mom downloaded it and immediately handed it to me to hunt pokemon for her.

I have found 7 types so far but only captured 6 types (damnit game freeze!!! I WANTED THAT SPARROW) and hit two pokespots nears by and am trying to figure out what the one a quarter to half a mile away covered in hearts means...

so for the next few weeks im going to be her pokemon hunter it looks like.

    Anyone else playing?

I want so badly to play but I don't have a smartphone myself, and my husband's isn't compatible with the app, so I have to sit idly by while screenshot after spoiler goes by on the internet.

If you are talking about the ones looking like they are in a stereotypical girly anime and have pink petals around it, it means someone put a lure on it.

THANK whatever deity this did not come out 20 odd years ago. My daughter would have had a full on shit-fit to get this.

ONE thing though and all of you need to be aware of this. When I watched the news last night they ran a story about several reports of people showing up at Poke-spots to ya know catch the Pokémon and got mobbed and robbed.

            Be careful out there.

Yeah saw those too but I may or may not own a set of brass knuckles and a blackjack that were once owned and used by my great grandfather when he was a sheriff/cop then prison warden in the 40s, 50s and 60s in Wyoming and Montana.... and I may or may not weight 400 pounds and be trained in 3 forms of self-defense. Also I right now live in walking distance of a fire station two schools and two churches which is where most of the spots near me are.

Oh and Rocket Man, it's free that's why mama slicey got it.

                UGH!!!

Ok I get it some people really love this franchise, I am not a fan in general. I am however about to check out an up armored MRAP to drive through traffic. I have almost been in 20 wrecks in 4 days due to morons slamming on their breaks whilst trying to operate their phone and catch a Pokémon. The GF is driving me nuts demanding I stop so she can catch them leading to a fight about the fact I was on the Bloody Interstate at the time so stopping wasn’t an option.

First time I get hit by some clown playing that game while driving I’m suing Nintendo and the makers for billions.

My BF is playing Pokemon Go. I enjoy looking at all the cute critters he's caught. It has gotten him out walking more (and me, sometimes, too). We went into the greenhouse at the park for the first time after he discovered it was a gym.

He has also struck up several conversations with people that were playing, that he wouldn't have thought of as the type who would play such a game. Stereotypical beer-bellied, mullet-wearing, redneck-looking folks asking BF if this church is his gym. (Many of the gyms in our area are churches, since we don't have much else for landmarks.)

When we're out together, I normally drive, so I don't have to worry about him being a distracted driver. He'll make note of locations of gyms and Pokestops to investigate later.
"I look at the stars. It's a clear night and the Milky Way seems so near. That's where I'll be going soon. "We are all star stuff." I suddenly remember Delenn's line from Joe's script. Not a bad prospect. I am not afraid. In the meantime, let me close my eyes and sense the beauty around me. And take that breath under the dark sky full of stars. Breathe in. Breathe out. That's all."

This sounds like a lot of fun but I have a Blackberry Passport. I'm not sure I could get it to work.

Until I read Crai's comment I thought this was a great way to get people moving. But are people trying to catch pokemon in their cars? Really?

Yes, yes they are. I see them all over now driving with their phones in hand waving them back and forth, randomly stopping then going again. Saw one guy on a moped this weekend doing it. (I cant stand mopeds to begin with this just made it worse)

Add that to people being luered in and ambusheed / robbed, terms and conditions of it you have to allow it FULL access to your Google account. It can send emails / read your emails. The GPS Tracking it uses and reports is anti privacy insanity.

For me this game is No No No....

Oh it's worse than that. Do you utilize Google Drive? Google Docs?, Contacts, Buisness? Yup, it has access to all of that. At least that's how it is with the iOS version. Apparently the Android one isn't THAT invasive.

And I get ribbed for not having a smartphone.

I wouldn't play this anyway (Pokemon is just not my thing), but I was standing on a street corner the other day, and saw TWO people playing it. Then, after lunch, I saw another playing it.

A co-worker of mine said he and his wife were playing it at his apartment at the same time the other day.

It seriously reminds me of this episode of Star Trek: TNG...

I haven't seen anyone playing it in their car yet, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time.

I don't play - no smartphone by choice -- but I did a little research. In addition to having basically full access to your Google/YouTube profile, it also links to a prior ARG-type game (by the same people?) that allowed people to set up their own locations of interest -- which, for that game, mostly meant bars. It's theoretically possible that new stops/gyms can be added to PKGo via that app. Could make things easier for ne'er-do-wells, so use caution, everybody.

As for driving and hunting the critters...Eep. Yeah, please don't. ^__^ Wrecks have been caused. Also, someone found a dead body under a bridge or something while out hunting, too x.x
