  • Welcome home Scarlett! (My flock just got unexpectedly bigger)

I posted a thread saying that we were considering her, but I wanted to post again to show off pictures.

We weren't actually looking for a new bird right now. We have been thinking about getting a macaw at some point, but not until next year at the earliest. We've had a lot going on, including one major household change (short story, Mr. Mathnerd, myself, my ex-husband and his wife all talked a lot and decided that with my middle kid's problems, it might be best if he lived with dad and step mom for a while, and that happened, but not without major drama). However, we found out about a couple of birds who were in a bit of a bind. They needed homes ASAP. So thinking it would be a no-go, we went up to look anyway. There was an elderly blue and gold macaw and a young adult scarlet macaw. The B&G was healthy, looked great and had no behavioral issues. The scarlet is missing a wing and has a severe plucking problem. But it was love at first sight. We brought home Scarlett the scarlet macaw. We have a lot of work to do in order to rehabilitate her, but she will have a loving home here for the rest of her life. (Also, I want to change her name to Letty, as she reminds me of the Fast and Furious movie franchise character).

    Here's here good side:

And her damaged side. You can see basically her entire body is plucked clean, in addition to the missing wing.

She's still gorgeous! ^_^ I hope you'll be able to rehab her easily!

Thanks! And a few more pictures to show off now that I have her settled in her real quarantine room.

Here she is watching "birdie TV". Though she turned her head when I made noise to take the picture.

And here she shows off her monkey side.

And she's playing peek-a-boo with us today. This is a very, very good thing. I have high hopes for as a complete a rehabilitation as possible with only one wing, though I expect it will be many months, if not years.
