  • Unimportant nail polish question

    Hi everyone

So I've gotten into nail art (I like that I can do art one night and wear it the next day instead of spending weeks on a jewelry project, though I do still make jewelry). A problem I'm having is when I try to do a base layer of color, no matter what brand of polish I'm using, the polish gets thick and streaky by the time I've done three swipes. I think it's climate related as Colorado is really dry right now, and with Hubby always having the AC on, it's probably even drier.

Has this happened to anyone else? If so, what to do about it? Thanks.

Hm. I'm in Colorado too, and never had this issue. are you using older polishes? Maybe put a drop or two of nail polish remover in the bottle and shake really well? Or maybe you're using too much polish per stroke?

I think it's probably that they're old. The drug stores have all the summer colors on sale and that's what I've been getting. Probably too much polish too. I've been told not to use remover, but nail polish thinner is pretty cheap, will try some of that.

I always use a base coat first and make sure it's absolutely dry before I put the main color over it. Then make sure each new coat is dry before you apply the next one.
When you start at zero, everything's progress.

I second the thinner suggestion. Nail polish remover will work temporarily but it will thicken up again rather quickly.
