  • Weird commercial...

I'm streaming a local sports talk station, and I heard a commercial for a divorce attorney firm. Now, I don't need a divorce attorney, but I thought the commercial was rather odd.

The basic gist of it was, "Your wife's a bitch because she's divorcing you, this divorce isn't your fault, use email and be polite..."

I thought it was really, really weird.

Wow. Nothing like fanning the flames while pretending that you're trying to put out the fire ...

I work in an office that does family law (among other things). There are enough people who are bitches/bastards to their spouse on their own; they don't need encouragement.

      It definitely fans the flames.

In the case of the commercial, the guy says to use email so that you have "a record", and to show "flexibility" and to show "reasonableness". I'm guessing he's saying that hoping that men are thinking "maybe I can get her to say something crazy..."

I understand that men who have had a divorce filed against them are the possible target market, but I don't think that's necessarily the right way to go about it.

Generally speaking, divorce attorneys and divorce attorney ads are targeted toward women. This one was targeted toward men, but again, I thought it was odd.

I've never heard an ad for a divorce attorney (targeted toward women) that basically said, "Your husband is a real bastard...do these things..."

We also have a lawyer locally that specializes in representing men in family court. I don't know if he's the same guy you are talking about. However, communicating via e-mail is a great way to have a written record to avoid he said-she said situations. HR recommends that managers communicate with their subordinates via e-mail as much as possible, esp. if said manager is trying to get someone out the door.

I don't disagree with you vis-a-vis communicating via email.

It's the way the guy talks about it, though.
