  • Finally a smidgen of good news

I picked out a bday present, and got my fiance to agree.

She's 4 weeks old now, my bday is in a month.

I've picked out a name for her: Ashara, Ash for short

That smudge on her nose did me in. I was prepared to ooh and aah over the kittens and not claim one, but damn. She got me!

        KITTEN!!!! Yaaay for kitten!
“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged.
One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world.
The other, of course, involves orcs." -- John Rogers

Sad news, she died, and of course I was attached.
As I was crying fiancé went all "I WILL GET YOU A KITTY!!"

I am meeting with a rescue today to look at a couple cats.

If all goes well one will come home with me.

                      I'm so sorry.

We inherited my dad's cat a few weeks ago. He is sweet and he and my cat are tolerating each other, but they are the same age, roughly- 12 or 13- so I don't know how long we'll have either of them. Hopefully they'll live for years yet but who knows? Good luck at the shelter!

I just got home with the kitty. It helped that she met me at the pet supply store. I was able to get things like a collar an engraved tag, and some toys.

The rescue lady was thrilled. She's like "she doesn't do good at the adoption fairs, she gets too stressed out so doesn't interact. I didn't think she'd EVER get adopted!"

Letting her get used to the room that has all the cat stuff first, then will let her roam the house and meet the other pets.

Pretty girlie. Her markings look sort of like my Bittle Kittle's, kind of a mix of tortoiseshell and tabby.

That's the same brand cat tree that I have! Mine is a different model, though. I'm on the second one, the first one finally accumulated enough damage on some of the posts and one of the cubes that I had to reconfigure it into a smaller structure, which was moved to our cat room (formerly spare bedroom) while the replacement went back into the computer room.

If your pretty girl is at all athletic and decides she likes to go up the tree at a run, might I suggest a bag or two of small gravel (fits just about perfectly into a pillowcase) on the base to stabilize it? We've got 2 50-pound bags on ours, and Mister Kitteh still sometimes manages to rock the tree a little when he hits it two-thirds of the way up at 15 or 20 mph.
