    6 degrees

    You've probably heard of "6 degrees of Kevin Bacon", where you try to get from the source to Kevin Bacon in 6 or fewer steps. Let's see how many steps it takes to get between two points. Successful guess posts the next one.

    Captain James T. Kirk and Detective Dan Tanna

    ETA: IIRC, Dan Tanna was a private detective, not a police detective.

          I don't know, but I do know that I'm two degrees from Jim Ross, retired WWE announcer, two degrees from NFL running back Adrian Peterson, and 3 degrees from some WWE wrestlers.

            Kirk to Sisko/Hawk to Spenser/Tanna? As characters rarely cross into other shows I can't think of any other way of doing it... It's normally played actor to actor.

            I'm 2 degrees from David Tennant, which is nice.

              Correct. Captain Kirk
              was a leading role on Star Trek
              which had several spinoffs, including Deep Space 9
              where the commanding officer was played by Avery Brooks
              who also played Hawk on Spenser for Hire
              which starred Robert Urich
              who also played Dan Tanna on Vega$
