  • Steam Summer Sale 2017 -- Broke as F*** Edition

You all know the drill. Post your finds, recommendations, etc. Sale lasts thru July 5, and they're giving us virtual STICKERS!!! (note: The Sticker quests are available retroactively -- you can still do all of the "quests" to obtain them on the last day)

This year I only managed to scrape together about thirty bucks, so here's my "cool stuff to get on a budget" list thus far:

Knights of Pen & Paper 2 - Deluxiest Edition $3.74 (A DM and his players at the table -- literally -- playing a game that is TOTALLY NOT D&D >_> Decorate the game room to get passive bonuses in all game sessions)

Day of the Tentacle Remastered $3.74 (aka one of the greats from the Maniac Mansion guys)

Darksiders Warmastered Edition $3.99 (includes classic ed, plus remastered ed/extras; God Of War-ish game)

Mystery Chronicle: One Way Heroics $0.89 (sequel to OWH/OWH+, check it out! 2D roguelike fantasy RPG, but every move you make, every step you take....brings the encroaching Darkness ever closer, forcing you to keep moving)

Stories: Path of Destinies artbook $0.99 & Soundtrack $1.99 (nice addons for an AMAZING action game -- Smartass sense of humor, branching story paths that eventually lead up to a finale once you figure out the ONE path through the storybook that does NOT result in your unfortunate demise) (base game is 3.4, go pick it up!) My review of it-- Friend me on Steam while yer there (mention CS so I'll know who you are), my handle is eric_kei

Guild of Dungeoneering Deluxe Ice Cream Edition $8.24 (base game, OST, all DLC -- simple, mostly b&w game about building a dungeon, filling it with loot and treasure, and seeing how your adventurer will respond)

    More to come.

PS Anyone who likes the Infinity Engine games -- All of the Enhanced Editions (Baldur's Gate I (+DLC) & II, Icewind Dale are all on sale, too)

Jalopy - Basically you're driving this Trebbie equivalent. $7.99

It's a road trip simulator. You're driving the Trebbie your uncle gave you, which is a piece of junk (he gives to you in a junk yard, which has parts you need to start in it, he's also a car dealer). A 2 stroke engine. And your trip is randomly generated, there are choices for your route along the way, you can buy goods and sell them at later points for more money. You must do maintenance, like repairing parts, change tires, fill it with gas, manage your money, etc. You can pretty much replace everything on the car, paint, decorations, etc.

It's in early access so they're probably going to be adding more.

A warning, though, try not to get stuck with your front tires off the ground. The car can't go. You'll restart to the beginning of the trip in your uncle's junkyard. Anything you've done to your car and parts you might have will still be there.

Basically it's a road trip roguelike, but one where you get to keep stuff. :P

So far I've bought Contraption Maker and Terraria, and a couple gifts of Hollow Knight for my kid and a good friend of ours. The kid gifted me Don't Starve Together. I'm not sure about any other games I really want right now, largely because I'm playing Secret World Legends at the moment, and I don't play a lot of games lately because my laptop is slowly dying. Next payday I'm hoping to get a better computer though...and then wait for the next Steam sale while I put a bunch of games on my wishlist!

I think you mean "Trabi". Short for Trabant.

I don't have anything that will run Steam decently, so the only thing I can contribute is that I have been mainlining Youtube videos made in "Rise of Flight", which is available on Steam. It is a thoroughly realistic (as far as I can tell) and quite beautiful simulation of WWI air combat.

I'd love to play it, but I would need:
        - Decent gaming computer
        - Big monitor
        - Joystick
        - Pedals
        - Throttle quadrant
        - Head tracker

        ...None of which I have...

Now, evidently you can play the game with just a mouse and keyboard, but each of the other peripherals adds noticeably to the experience and makes it easier to control things.

... And if I ever did pick up all of that, my wife probably wouldn't see the front of my head for at least six months ... She has vetoed it for that reason!
“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged.
One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world.
The other, of course, involves orcs." -- John Rogers

            More phat lewt...or something

ORCS $0.49 -- Pixel graphics indie action game

Super House of Dead Ninjas $1.39 (+DLC $0.59) -- Bloody, fast, ninja action

Savant - Ascent; + Vario Soundtrack $1.18 -- Hybrid SHMUP/platformer with rockin tunes

Teslagrad $1.49 -- Adventure/platformer with lots of sparky electric goodness

            Tallowmere $0.99 -- Roguelike action/dungeon game

BalanCity $0.79 -- Stack up a thriving city, building by building, on an unstable platform

Bionic Dues $1.49 -- turn-based tactics game with mechs

            Metal Dead -- $1.69

Bit Blaster XL -- $0.49-- b/w pixel SHMUP

& more soundtracks, ~$cheap : Brutal Legend, Psychonauts OST, Psychonauts Cinematic Score, Machinarium (+artbook)

Shoutout to a game I already had: Machinarium - it's $1.24, a point & click adventure game with robots in an interesting art style; recently had a free "Definitive Version" upgrade with a total remake/reprogramming of the game in a new game engine, allowing for high-resolution play, controller support, etc

Plus, as usual, if you've never played Psychonauts...Why the hell not? O_O Go! Go now! It's only a buck!

PS - Anyone who uses GOG, check out GOG Connect -- Yeah, yeah, I'm late to the party, I know. If you connect your Steam account to it, you can add certain Steam games to your GOG library for free. The list changes from time to time, and you can only *ever* have one Steam account linked to one GOG account (no takebacks), but it's a neat deal, especially if you end up in a sitch where you can access GOG but not Steam (e.g. your housemate or your kid is playing one of those games on Steam, so you can just fire up the GOG version and go multiplayer or just play another Steam game on GOG instead.
