  • Ugh, I hate trying to sell stuff online ...

I posted a couple of air purifiers (a floor model and a tabletop model) on Kijiji -- the Canadian version of Cragislist.

I got FOUR emails today in quick succession from one guy:
    1) Do you still have them?
    2) Will you take (slightly less than I'd asked) for the tabletop model?
    3) Will you take (slightly less than I'd asked) for both?
    4) Okay, I'll give you (amount I asked) for both.

So I respond and tell him I'll take the slightly less amount for both and he can come get them tomorrow or Sunday.

Response? "Oh, I've bought one, but I might come get them still at the end of the month!"

Yeah, I won't hold my breath on that one. Seriously ... apparently in this guy's world, either you respond IMMEDIATELY or he'll rush off and get what he wants elsewhere.

I'd prefer to sell them rather than donate them, but ...

I have heard the horror stories. I have a few things to sell. I am dreading it.

Oh yeah. Several years ago I was trying to unload a lot of stuff (some of it free) online, and I finally started a blacklist of people who said they wanted X and Y and Z ... but never showed up.

Had the same thing happen to me here, when I posted a bunch of mystery magazines on a Facebook group. Idiot who said she wanted them kept making excuses for not showing up.

Now I put "no holds" on my posts. If somebody else wants the item, they get it, if the first choice doesn't show up. If there's no second choice, it goes out to a local thrift shop.

I used to sell arcade parts on ebay. It was common for me to go to bed at 3am and be up at 8am. I lost count of the people that would send a dozen messages while I was asleep, each one getting meaner and insulting me for not responding. They always got the same response when I checked my email in the morning. "I'm sorry that my body requires me to sleep for a couple hours each night. Seeing as I am not the robot you want me to be, I don't know how we can do business. You have been blocked from buying anything from my store. Have a wonderful day."

On the other end, I once messaged someone about a pug they had for sale on kijiji... a good two weeks later they replied that oh yes, he's available, when would I like to come over? I'm like, um, already got a dog now. I was very serious about it and the lady with the chin responded right away...
