  • Anybody up for a pool party ... ?

This is my back yard ... somebody suggested I run out and buy some koi.

My Hometown's largest mall has been shut down because the parking lot has become a lake and apparently even a couple of stores have taken on water.

The turnoff to the smaller mall near my house is under about 8-10 inches of water.

Not exactly on par with Houston, thank goodness, but it's pretty exciting stuff for this area.

Koi would be nice. I'm glad you're not suffering as much as Houstonians. It makes me incredibly sad. I just want to hug all those people.

The suffering here is, as far as I can tell, quite minimal compared to Houston, which could quite accurately be described as a 'disaster'.

We did have one hospital close its ER. Any ER surgeries went on, but anybody sitting in ER was either transferred to another hospital or sent home.

One shift at a local car manufacturing factory was sent home early.

Then there's the mall and the turnoff to the smaller mall, as mentioned above.

And several areas of roadway in the city were more suitable for amphibious vehicles.

That's all I know, mostly from news reports.

Oh, and my neighbour has a pile of presumably water-soaked stuff at the curb. Again. It's not as big as the pile she had last year, but still ...

How we managed to get away with NO water in the basement, I have no clue, but believe me, I'm not complaining.

The visible water is gone from the backyard (so no koi ) but I guarantee if you try to step into that area, it will "squish" really well for a few days to come.

Not to make light of a terrible situation, but have you thought of investing in an Amphibicar?

In a few years, I expect to be moving to the Prairies ... otherwise I would give it some serious thought!

Back when it happened over here, I remember walking home from work through the downpour (killed my smartphone in my pocket), crossing the street with the water up to my knees ... and afterwards the mountains of ex-cellar contents the city took at least a week to remove.

I've read some awful stories about people losing absolutely everything they own (in Texas, not here). So even if I had lost some stuff, it would merely be an "Oh crap, should've dealt with that some time ago."

Those photos are awful. Some of our roads looked like that, but only for the one day.
