“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged.
One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world.
The other, of course, involves orcs." -- John Rogers
Santas in shopping centres still wear the traditional northern hemisphere full red suit. But on 'Australian' christmas cards, he is usually in shorts and short sleeved shirts.
There is also a song called Six White Boomers, but it's by Rolf Harris so I'm not linking it. Boomer is an old name for really big male kangaroos. It is from the noise they make as they are bouncing through the bush and paddocks. Basically, it's too hot for the reindeer, so Santa uses kangaroos to make the deliveries in Oz.
Not sure what Santa would do in New Zealand though. Maybe a Kiwi can let us know?
