I was just thinking this morning about what to put on and in a small glass-fronted cabinet I brought from Mom's house. There's already a few items on top and I was also thinking how lucky I was that my two middle-aged cats no longer jump up on things.

You can see where this is going, can't you ...

I don't know exactly what happened, but I suddenly heard a crash and saw Fuzzy Pumpkin zip past me. Everything on top of this small cabinet was on the floor ... including a nice teapot I'd hoped to sell at the upcoming garage sale. It has roses on it that are raised off the surface of the pot, so you can imagine how easily those things get damaged.

As luck would have it, the damage is fairly minimal; I don't know how that happened. The worst of it seems to have been the lid: the rose on the lid lost two leaves. Pretty sure I can glue them back on, if I can figure out what to use. It could have been SO much worse. And it's not like I was going to sell it for much anyway.

Off to vacuum up the bits that can't be reglued back on, and possibly the cat as well ...

When we were owned by Murphy, at least once he managed to get up on top of my desk--as in on top of the hutch That's a good three feet or so above the desk surface itself, and the only possible surface he could use would be the top edge of my monitor--which would take a LOT of skill as it is right up against the hutch.

As far as getting his furry behind back on the floor where it belonged, I'd have to do that Mom maintains that he knew damn well how to get down on his own but knew I'd do it.

Cats love high places, the higher the better. When we got our first cat many years ago, I purchased a sonotube. It looks like a giant paper towel core.

I think it was about 8 feet long, so it reached our ceiling. I cut an opening one foot from the top, put in a floor, then covered the whole thing with a carpet remnant.

The cats loved it. That was to only place they would climb to and all other tall objects were safe.

The carpet covering also made a nifty scratching post.
