  • Ouch!

Playing this here because I don’t want to derail the Scott Hall death thread. As I posted there, three weeks ago. I was coming out of having a cardiac stress test. (Heart issues run in my family, just doing it to rule out anything) I tried to get on my mountain bike, but I couldn’t maintain my balance. I fell directly on my hip. I don’t hear any bones snap, but knew something was wrong when I couldn’t move my left leg. The funny part is, I was LITERALLY across from the street from the hospital’s ER entrance. So in I went. After several excruciating transfers from hospital bed to X-ray and CT scanners. It was determined my left hip was broken. I went in to surgery the next day, and had a rod put in. I was in the hospital for two weeks, and am now currently in a nursing home with a PT center rehabbing. Currently I use s wheelchair to go long distances, and a walker for shorter trips. I can get out of bed by myself if the bed is inclined, though I’m working towards a flat bed get uo. I also cannot walk unless I have something to lean onto. I’m working towards getting better, and hoping I get to go home soon. I also wheel around the hallways as a form of exercise, usually three times a day.

I’m not posting to complain, only to let my CS friends know what’s up. I WILL do this, and nothing will stop me!

Well, you have the right attitude, Keep it up and post your progress.

      And one more thing...
Don't run anyone over with the wheel chair. It's messy. Too much paperwork...

Try telling that to my aunt. So far she's crashed into displays at two Walmarts, a Target, and several at various grocery stores -- luckily not into anyone or did any damage (that I KNOW of).
Eh, one day I'll have something useful here. Until then, have a cookie or two.

                A bit of an update:

t fell this morning going to the bathroom. The nurse insisted on calling the paramedics, but that time I’d made it back to bed by butt-scooting and climbing up onto the bed. They called my sister to check, but aside from my pride, nothing was really hurt, so here in the nursing home I’m staying.

Currently, I can stand with minimal support for about 8 mins, walk with a walker for approximately 20 yards, I told y’all nothing is stopping me, and by God, nothing will. I will conquer this!

Setbacks happen, but you've definitely got the right mindset. Here's hoping for a speedy and thorough recovery!

I’m getting discharged April/ 13, with a wheelchair and walker. Sadly my insurance will only pay for one item, so they can pay got the chair. I’ll mosty likely be getting in-‘home PT also. I just need to keep on walking, and I’ll be using the chair for long distances. The therapists say I’m right where I’m supposed to be as far as my mobility. I will be back. Nothing and nobody is stopping me!

Glad you're close to escaping the hospital. Friendly advice: it's not at all uncommon to find walkers and canes in thrift stores.

csquared; I really don’t have anything planned. What I want most of all is to return to my job. Granted it’s just as a grocery bagger, but being able to work means everything to me.

@Seanette: I already purchased a walker from Walmart online (where I’m at allows you to receive packages), plus I already have a cane from when I had another bike fall in January and had a minor knee injury.

I just walked the entire parking lot. (In my estimation, 100 yards end to end) I’m both proud of myself and tired because of it. I think I’ll be paying for this later, but damn, it’s good knowing I could do it.😀 I go home in 3 days.
