  • Still here!

In case anyone was wondering, things seem to be pretty good. I went to the oncologist recently, and she prescribed some pills to be taken daily. They're low doses of chemo. She told me that the medication won't prevent my hair from growing back, which is good.

However, I have to take this medication for three years.

I had no idea. Really. It's to prevent recurrence, she told me, which makes sense - but THREE YEARS????

I also have to have blood tests every week for a month (two down, two to go) so they can make sure the medication isn't having any adverse effects on me.

Wow, this is really a long slog. But I don't have to have more chemo, and the port has been removed!

My wife, who had breast cancer, was told she would be considered cancer-free after five years. So three years does not sound too bad.

That sounds like progress. Getting your port out is a good sign.

Not a bad prospect. I am not afraid. In the meantime, let me close my eyes and sense the beauty around me. And take that breath under the dark sky full of stars. Breathe in. Breathe out. That's all."

It's the fact that I have to take this medication every day for three years. I threw up four times last week, due to the side effects of it. That's more than when I was undergoing chemo.

              You can do this!

I know taking the medicine for three years seems like a long time, but if the way this year has been flying by it'll be over before you know it.
Eh, one day I'll have something useful here. Until then, have a cookie or two.

It hasn't really flown by for me. What really gets me is that I've had to take anti-nausea medication every day to keep from praying to the porcelain throne.
