We are now back in one piece-we had no power from Thursday through to Sunday morning. There are a lot of trees down and some places are still without power. There was The biggest danger with the winds was debris-I was staying in a hotel one night and we were not allowed to open the windows as they would have taken off out to sea.
Trains and buses were all cancelled for a day or two and there were several cases of power lines breaking and then blowing around in the wind, sending out sparks. Fortunately these didn't cause any injuries!
Scilly took a battering as they're about 25 miles off the coast so anything coming across the Atlantic will hit it straight on first-winds were up to 100mph there. St.Michael's Mount also lost a lot of trees(it's basically a castle on an island in the middle of a big bay accessed by a causeway. I would not have fancied being in there during the stoem
For us,the greenhouse and the shed have suffered rather badly here-the shed roof has caved in(fortunately it was due to be demolished soon...)We lost our dustbin which took off up towards the village(and has now been recovered)-in return someone's trampoline has ended up in our field.
Sadly there have been a few deaths, but damage seems to be limited to property. With the snow and ice storms we had just before, some of the schools still haven't been able to start back after the Christmas holidays yet! Many thanks for the prayers. The Copyright Monster has made me tell you that my avatar is courtesy of the wonderful Alice XZ.And you don't want to annoy the Copyright Monster.
