There's a guy on facebook who does videos about how he moved to New Jersey (he's from New York and now lives about 20 minutes from me) and how it's a whole different world here. He just did one about how we give directions.Quoth Ironclad Alibi View Post
That's right up there with "turn left at the corner where the green house used to be."
"Why do New Jersey drivers give directions using stores that closed years ago? Because in New Jersey, directions run on memory, not maps. Ask a Jersey driver how to get somewhere and youβll hear βturn where the Blockbuster used to beβ or βgo past the old Pathmarkβ or βitβs by the urgent care that turned into a ShopRiteβ β places that havenβt existed in a decade. New Jersey directions, explained: locals navigate by dead landmarks because everyone here has driven the same roads for so long that the old store names stuck."
(Funny thing, and I don't know if this is why he used that, but there was a ShopRite in that town that was turned into a medical office. Not sure if it's an urgent care or just a regular branch of that health system's practice.)I don't go in for ancient wisdom

There's an old story about a clear-cut forest and a woodpecker frantically flying about, crashing into the trees that aren't there...Quoth BookstoreEscapee View Post..."Why do New Jersey drivers give directions using stores that closed years ago?...

For me where I live its "turn left where the old oak tree was, go past the first Dollar General you see, turn right at the second Hardee's, and if you find yourself going past the third Dollar Tree then you've gone too far".Quoth Ironclad Alibi View Post
