So next year if a five foot something brunette with thick ass glasses and a big ass stick shows up at your door, you'd better hope you have a receipt from the post office lying handy!
You just described me (and by extension, Bella)!!

    Can we become a trio?

Although, thinking on it, I might have red hair again...but that shouldn't be a problem!!

Woo Hoo! I have some pent up rage from work that I need to get out.
        I'm bringing disdain back...with a vengeance.

Oh, and your tool box called...you got out again.

        • I like the idea of a "back out period."

It is hard to say what kind of money you'll be spending on this venture, when you can't possibly know how many people will sign up for the exchange.

In my very finite wisdom, I prepared myself for higher numbers in the event that loads of people signed up. I didn't want to put myself in the position of having to back out because there were 100 names on the list, but I could only afford to send 40 cards. But, I'm a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts, "Be Prepared" is one of our mottos.

While this was a bit of an expense, it really wasn't as costly as I thought it was going to be. Sharing something this special with so many people in so many different parts of the country and the world made it worth every penny and moment spent.

But I can see someone signing up, thinking they're sending out maybe 30 cards, and then getting overwhelmed (although, this is an internet forum with thousands of members, what do you expect, honestly?)

I babble. I think a week period to finalize a decision might have some merit.
I will not shove “it” up my backside. I do not know what “it” is, but in my many years on this earth I have figured out that that particular port hole is best reserved for emergency exit only. -GK

          • But then, would you get people after that week, and the revised list being sent out, saying "Oh, it's down to 30 people now, not 45? Okay, I'm in!"?

I gave a false impression - I found a little pile of 7/8 cards I hadn't added to the total. I did thank the individuals when they arrived, just didn't add them to my summary a few posts back. So it's a bit less no-show than I thought - yay.

I think if there is a back-out period there won't be a back-in period. Besides, if you back out, you won't be getting a revised list, so it wouldn't matter.

No. Obviously, that's the point of a deadline.

If people can't get their details to her correctly by that point, then they are SOL until the next year, no matter how many people back out.

                  • I know it's months later, but thanks again JM!

I had a problem because I left my cards at my school for something to do the next day after finals and we had a snow day, so I contacted JM for the address list again and just started over. Got them out on time right before work on Christmas Eve. JM was really nice about resending me the address list.

I do hope we can keep on with this project. It brought me alot of joy to get mail almost everyday and it helped my mom trust this website and the people in it. She's fine with me talking to Plaidman on the phone because of it! My sister even got into it and would get excited if a card was in the mail, even though it was for me and not for her.

                    • This project was fun. I may even do it again next year. It wasn't really expensive (about $32 USD for postage) and to be honest. It felt... really nice... to get holiday cards and good wishes during my more miserable time of the year.

I hate the cold, I hate Christmas because something bad almost always happens. But ya know, it was really really nice to get all those cards.

And thanks again to the couple people to sent RW and Lupo cards via my address too. It was really sweet of you guys.

Jeez...maybe there's still hope for the envelope of magazines I sent via interoffice mail shortly before Christmas. It was only going to the other end of the warehouse, but my friend never got it...

One of these days I'll dig out Steverino's card and send it (again).

                              • Forgive me if someone's covered this already (this is a megathread and I haven't read the whole thing), but would any of the Canadian participants be willing to share how much they spent on postage this year?

I'd like to participate next year, but given that most members are from the States, I'm worried about the cost of all the international postage. But if I had a rough idea of the cost, I could start saving my pennies now.

If you have to ask, it's probably better posted at www.fratching.com
