Thanks so much for all the great information. I did wonder about the bit torrent stuff. i didn't like it. It's a bit confusing for me and how could it be legal to download full albums from artists that are still for sale in stores.Quoth Eric the Grey View PostThere are a few other sites that sell MP3's online. www.emusic.com is one of them, if I recall the right site (I cannot get to it from work because music download sites are blocked here at work).
If you are looking for more music, different artists, then I'd suggest heading over to Pandora.com. Enter in the name of an artist you like, and let Pandora will play them, and then other similar tunes. If you like them, you can search them out, or follow the links they offer.

I am going to look at the Emusic site. That looks good. My son actuially told me last night about Pandora. He listens to it all the time.
GAKHAKAWEA ! ! ! Ywech. I didn't like them when they first started out. Still don;t are for them to this day. There's lots of other good metal bands that I love thouhg.Quoth Lace Neil Singer View PostGet into Kiss. Then you will be introduced to the world of the craziest fans ever. XD

One of my (many) favourite bands Mostly Autumn kinda in the progressive vein with touches of Pink Floyd.
Evergreen
Heroes Never Die
A Different Sky
Just a small selection from this very talented (and local to me) band. They are so local in fact that my husband used to meet several of them while working in the enquiry office (he's moved to sorting now though). As soon as I start thinking
That I'm sensible and sane
The Random Hedgehog comes along
And fiddles with my Brain

DRM sucks, but there are ways....
As far as new bands I used to use a site that you could find through downloads.com They had free mp3s as teasers.
I found a band called Sabaton through there. Got a awesome song called Primo Victoria
Then I do use iLike as well at times. (although I haven't been there in a while) Found the bands Witchbreed, Blinded Colony & Throwdown.
But honestly the best way I find new music is through itunes, or you tube. Like I tend to check out the artist they tell you to check out and I'll run onto you tube and listen to their music on you tube."It takes people like you, to make people like me" Another Night In London - Devildriver

I download my music from iTunes or I go to Best Buy and buy the CDs. They are going DRM-free. I like the Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes and Queens of the Stoneage. I have been listening to The Last Shadow Puppets for a bit now and liking them more and more each time. And you can burn the music to a CD if you go with iTunes. In fact, they tell you to back it up.When will the fantasy end? When will the heaven begin?

I loaded up a lot of my iTunes purchased music onto an MP3 player (not an iPod) for my dad, and didn't have any trouble.
I wonder if DRM stuff is different here in Canada?
If you have to ask, it's probably better posted at www.fratching.com

I do both iTunes and Amazon (mainly because I use my iPod for everything musical), so I'll recommend iTunes for sheer ubiquity and Amazon for ease of use and fairly decent selection.
That said...some suggestions:
Some Celtic and related stuff:
Enter the Haggis
Great Big Sea
Altan
The Pogues
I really like the new Coldplay stuff, the new Keane single ("The Lovers Are Losing"), and I've always got a lot of old/new Rush and Barenaked Ladies in rotation.
If you haven't caught the hype on the Fleet Foxes, yet, go check them out - they are from my neck of the woods and I am happy to report there's not a flannel shirt in sight.
Two other local groups I like a lot are The Divorce and Harvey Danger...I know Harvey's got stuff you can download, but not sure about the other.
A group I really like, Correo Aereo, doesn't have anything downloadable that I know of, but it's worth ordering one of their CDs if you like what you hear on their website.
And I'll put in another vote for Kings of Leon, too, just 'cause.

Woodsongs Old-Time Radio Hour archives - you can download entire shows, most of them with both audio & video.
Woodsongs headline:
"Our worldwide multi-media celebration of grassroots, Americana music. Get ready to explore the beautiful world of folk, bluegrass, songwriting, new artists, literature, worldwide radio, television and concerts"
Also, the Kennedy Center Millenium Stage has streaming feeds of an extremely wide variety. My favorite is Groovelily which is led by a former Army Lieutenant (Valerie Vigoda) playing a 6-string flying-V electric violin.
She tells a story about a stalker who came to a very bad end: she married him
(He's the keyboardist in the band, Brendan)

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. Keep them coming. I love discovering new music. My band favorites folder is rapidly getting bigger and bigger. Some I haven't totally checked out yet but I will.
I Love what I have heard of the Blaggards. Thanks for whomever pointed me in that direction.

I remember reading the same article a couple of months ago or so. They were also changing their pricing structure on music.Quoth MadMike View PostI think I saw an article that stated that Apple was abandoning DRM.
As for music. Lately I've been on a eclectic kick. I have the following on the ipod right now.
Dead Kennedys, Pink Floyd, Enya, Enigma, The Cure, Jamariqua, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, among others (Needed nice chill quiet music for the hospital). My Karma ran over your dogma.

Shpepper, PM me if you're in the Seattle area and ever want to check out some good traditional Celtic stuff...my bf plays in a Celtic band and knows pretty much everyone in that scene, and it's always fun to bring in new people.Quoth Shpepper View PostThanks everyone for the great suggestions.
