Unemployment if you're fired?

I have never been fired from a job, but I have been temporarily laid off. Every time I've been laid off I have had no issue getting unemployment, but that may be because I have never been permanently laid off and since I always get to go back, I don't have to go through the whole process of looking for work, applying places, then reporting it to unemployment.

I have heard ugly rumors that at my factory, if you get hired, you will probably not get unemployment.
