True, but it seems that every time someone attempts this job, they break at least one stud. I guess the combination of age, repeated heating and cooling, and rust just makes them too brittle and they snap.

In any case, we won't be attempting this particular repair. We have neither to tools nor the proper facilities for it. It will have to wait until it goes in for that overhaul.

There aren't that many of them left from memory are there?
I saw one Thursday at a tire shop in Salt Lake. They had a plant in Logan years ago ... made Sno-Cats.

Whatever you do, don't take it over 88 mph

Seriously though, seized nuts and bolts can usually be freed with lots of penetrating oil, WD-40, and lots of cursing. Oh, and if that fails, it's usually time to bring out the torch
Either that, or a good cheater bar. Just make certain you're using a craftsman wrench, so that if it breaks you can get it replaced for free.

I'm surprised I didn't break a wrench while removing my MG's bumpers all those years ago. The nuts were literally fused onto the bolts. Considering that the gas tank was pretty close, I wasn't about to attempt using a torch I used the biggest open-end wrench, and hit the handle part with a hammer. The shock was enough to loosen the bolts.

Another trick, is to slip a section of pipe over the wrench. Works great with socket wrenches

Well, unless one of you wants to lie down on the parcel shelf, then you'll have to fight each other for the one seat.
Incidentally, this is possible, but certainly not recommended. The guys who did this prefaced the pictures with "WE ARE MORONS." And they took a two hour drive this way.

It wouldn't be the first time I've strapped myself to a car roof.

It could be worse. My MGB GT, which has a small rear seat...is currently a single-seater. I simply haven't reinstalled everything yet--the interior was gutted when I had the car repainted. At 5'9", the back seat isn't all that bad..but you definitely don't want to sit back there on long trips. That seat is really meant for small children...or legless dwarfs. Still, it is better than the roadster...which is a true two-seater. That has a small, raised pipe across the floor, allowing children to "perch" behind the driver. Trust me, it sucked.
