  • Hey what do those markings say OH SWEET LORD NO

    I made an uh-oh, CS.
    A very bad uh-oh.
    A driving uh-oh.

After leaving Rocketown here in Nashville (and seeing an incredible new band, The Almery), my friends and I tried to get out of there. Seeing as we don't live downtown, we proceeded to go 15 minutes in the opposite direction, because a guy we know called my friend's phone and talked to him for that amount of time (the phone was our GPS).

    But wait, it gets scarier!

    I have never driven downtown.
I have never driven downtown at night.
I have never driven downtown at night in the rain.
    Guess what I was doing.

We came to a strange path. I recognized the road we came into town on, so naturally I thought," okay, go that way". And I did.

It was a one-way street, and I was not going the right way. Cars were coming, too. I pulled over (or rather, jumped the car onto the sidewalk), waited until the cars passed, and pulled into a nearby parking lot to regain my composure while my friends laughed at me.

    Oh, it gets worse.

After calming my nerves, I circled back around and tried again.

I WENT THE SAME FUCKING WAY DOWN THE SAME FUCKING STREET.

Aw. You're human. Don't beat yourself up about it.

Don't feel too bad, I've driven into oncoming traffic myself. Not a fun moment when you see that wall of headlights coming toward you. Not only do you fear for your life when you veer to the side of the road to avoid sudden death, you also feel incredibly stupid.

That's how I felt when I once overtook a load of cars on my motorbike, only to realise, half way through, that it was a funeral procession.

The dilema then was do I stop or keep going

I feel your pain. Tonight, in heavy traffic, I was driving home from getting myself some ice cream and as I drove down the road I saw a light up ahead, slowed carefully, and stopped.

The light was green, and as I sat there, it turned yellow, then red.

The people behind me were not amused.

What can I say? Just one of those things that people do sometimes.
Drive it like it's a county car.

Don't feel too bad. I did *the exact same thing* (minus the weather and daylight conditions) once when I was living in Florida. The stupid concrete island thingy in the road confused me, and I ended up turning *into* the wrong way (which I realized when I saw the sign ahead warning "WRONG WAY"). I was like HOMFGSHIT!! when I realized my fuckup and hauled my ass back around pronto. I was damned lucky there were no cars and no cops present at the time.

I've done worse... I've before almost ran into a train for the exact opposite reason.
I saw the gates coming down, I saw the lights flashing, I even saw the fracking train approaching... it took me up until the last second for the hamster to start turning the wheel and say "shit, you need to stop"

Three times last year while I was a passenger (with 3 separate drivers) we ended up going the wrong way down a one way street. As you can tell, 'Zillers, this isn't a rare phenomenon. Try not to beat yourself up over it too much.

                  I love you guys.

We're going back to Rocketown tonight ($1 show and free BBQ? Hells yeah), wish me luck.
