They announced on the news today that if you recieved convertor box coupons & let them expire then you can re-apply for new ones. That begs the question of if you got convertor box coupons then why would you let them expire to begin with? Soon as I got mine I went out & bought my convertor boxes.
So what's the point of letting them expire?

Lost it? Got busy (not sure how long they're good for)? Places were sold out in your area on a constant basis? Completely and totally forgot that you'd not done it yet? You'd been holding on to it just in case, but you were planning on getting a new TV that you wouldn't need it for?

I'm curious to why they'd expire in a short while anyway.... why not just have a 5 year expiration date or something..

          Two reasons:

          a) Television is going digital this year, so what's the point of five years?

          b) The government has to pay for the ones that are used. They don't want to have a bunch floating around that could be used suddenly five years later, they need to be able to plan when to spend money.

In my case, I received the envelope, and put it away in a safe place until I had more information and time to go get a converter box (and also till I could find someplace that had them in stock!) I never opened the envelope, so I never found out they had an expiration date until it was too late.
