  • Glucose Test

I plan on going for my glucose test on Wednesday since that's my next full day off and I don't want to feel rushed. If anyone has any ideas on how I should prepare, I'm interested in hearing about it.

I don't think you can really prepare for a glucose test. If it's the fasting one, just make sure you follow the guidelines.

Exactly. Generally if it's fasting, nothing by mouth except water for 6 or 8 hours, depending on the Dr.

If it's not fasting, do nothing different than you would any other day, although I would not suggest pancakes for breakfast like I did when I had my first one. They reported 700+ blood sugar on that test...

Is it the one hour or the three hour?

I've only ever done the one hour non fasting myself. I've done it three times and the last was the worst.

The first two, my doctor gave me the stuff to drink at my last appointment before that and told me to drink it one hour before my appointment time. When I got to the office, I told them when I drank it and one hour after that they pulled me back to do a blood draw, even if they weren't ready for my appointment yet.

The last time (different doctor) they made me go to the lab and drink it then sit around for an hour until they could draw blood. Boring.

If you have to go and sit, make sure to take a book or something to do.

It's the 2 hour test. I do plan to bring something to keep me occupied.

Lucky. I had to take a 12 hour test once.

            Actually, twice.

I had my glucose test today. I was feeling terrible by the final blood draw. Luckily, the nurses had me sit in a reclining chair and one put a wet paper towel on my forehead. After the final blood draw, I was given graham crackers and a small can of ginger ale which actually helped.

The glucose drink happened to be orange and it was given to me in a plastic cup. I couldn't really taste it though and that's probably because I lost quite a bit of my sense of smell and taste a long time ago.

I just had a test on glucose. It sucked hardcore. Now I'm doing the take home portion. Damn you Glycolysis/Gluconeogensis/TCA/CAC/ETC/Fatty acids!!!!!!!

Sorry, I saw this thread and that's the first thing that I thought of.

I got the results a few days ago. It turns out that I'm mildly glucose intolerant.
