  • If you could cast a movie for one of your favourite books...

Who would you cast as the characters?

For me, I'm going to choose Guards Guards:

    Vimes: Gary Oldman
    Nobby: Steve Buscemi
    Carrot: Hugh Jackman
    The Patrician: Christoper Walken
    Sybil Ramkin: Jennifer Coolidge
    Sergeant Colon: John Goodman

You're not limited to whether the actors/actresses are living or not.

The "In Death" mysteries by J. D. Robb (aka Nora Roberts).

    Eve Dallas: Charlize Theron
    Roarke: Cillian Murphy
    Sommerset: Gary Oldman
    Peabody: Rachel McAdams

I'd have to think of the others. It's kinda hard. I knew immediately who would play Eve & Roarke, but the others? Yowza!

Unfortunately, none of my favourite books would make good movies. It's kinda why they're my favourite.

Probably the closest would be Incompetence, but unfortunately, I can't remember character names. So I'll have to just go with basic character descriptions.

      Main character: Clark Gable
      Adversary: Gary Busey
      Coroner: Robin Williams (pre-family friendly)
      Blind Bouncer: Danny Glover
      Octogenarian Playboy Bunny: George Burns

That's all I can think to cast at the moment. I'd need to reread the book to come up with more.

The Lois McMaster Bujold novels involving Miles VorKosigan ... I would go with the auditor trilogy, Komarr, A Civil Campaign and Diplomatic Immunity

        Miles Vorkosigan - Peter Dinklage
Mark VorKosigan - also Peter Dinklage, just he needs to wear a fat suit as he opeted to gain weight to make himself look different from Miles [they are clone brothers]
Cordelia VorKosigan - either JoBeth Williams or Sigourney Weaver
Alys VorPatril - Sigourney Weaver would also do for her, she needs to be almost an audry hepburn very cultured elegant woman type.
Aral VorKosigan - Well, the author herself said specifically that his looks were based on Oliver Reed not sure who would be a good match.
        Simon Illian - Daniel Craig
        Emperor Gregor - Rufus Sewell

We periodically have casting discussions on the Bujold List.

          Oh, I love this game!

My husband and I play this game all the time on long car rides. My favorite was "Kinko's...the Movie!"

I'll do one later when I have more time to think about it. I'll do my writing blog, that will be fun.

We cast B&N, the Movie when I was at Store2. Liv Tyler was cast as me...I don't see it, frankly.

Quite frankly, I'd hate for movies to be made of my two favorite series.

No one could do the main characters justice.

Yeah, it was Marisa Tomei as me (yeah, don't I wish. ) and Jeff Goldblum as my husband.

If I were casting my writing project (the one from my sig) it would have to be Rodrigo Santoro as Saint and maybe Alyson Hannigan as Lily (you know, it's hard to find plain-featured actresses. ) . Maybe Michael Spears as Lights the Storm (and I don't know because I've never asked her, but I would bet you even money that my artist based her sketch of that character on Spears, without any suggestion whatsoever from me. It's a good sketch.)

Emily Rossum could be Fiona, but she'd have to have a red dye job and green contacts. I don't know of any red-haired actresses that would work.

If you're talking Amber, I'd go with Alicia Witt. You might have to pull some camera tricks for height, but she's got the personality pretty solidly, she's a damn good actress, and I think her eyes are naturally green.

Casting Amber is always a challenge. But I usually go with Eric Etebari for Corwin, Oded Fehr of late for Caine, and Liam Neeson for Benedict.

I sort of accidentally cast a character once. When I was reading Dave Barry's first novel, Big Trouble, I realized I was envisioning the beefy not-so-bright cop character as Patrick Warburton. That was before I even knew a movie version had been made. So one day I turned on the TV, saw a familiar scene being played out with PW in it, and I let out a Keanu Reeves "woah."

I never would have imagined the main character as Tim Allen, though. Still it worked, and had pretty good casting and faithful adaptation all around.

I would pay so much money to see this. Oh my gosh, it's pretty much perfect. Christopher Walken as The Patrician? Heck YES!

                      You rock my socks, Iradney.

Mine would have to be the "Fever" series by Karen Marie Moning... (DarkFever, BloodFever, FaeFever, etc).

                        MacKayla Lane: Kristen Bell
                        Jericho Barrons: Christian Bale
                        V'Lane: Travis Fimmel

Those are the main three characters...I need to think about the others a bit more..

I won't put my cast up just yet...I actually have quite a few books I'd cast for.
OTOH though, either Anime Insider or Neo (both anime/manga magazines, Anime Insider is US based, Neo is UK based) do something like this with a certain anime. When I find one, I'll put it up.
