  • Twitter?

Alright, as I don't completely live under a rock, I know what Twitter is. What I would like to know is why someone would use it. I mean what is the purpose?
I have a...thing. Wanna see it?

Not a clue. I can't even update my DA journal regularly, so I somehow don't see myself posting new updates on my life every five seconds. Also, most of the Twitter entries are boring as heck. "Put the rubbish out." "Fed the cat." "Watched Eastenders." Yawn.

Because the media says its the latest craze. Therefore it is.

I for one do not understand why one would twat either. Hell I barely log into facebook more than once every 3 months.

To see what other people are doing, quickly, without having to look all the way through a regular profile.

It also updates you on celebrities that you enjoy, or groups that you like. It just keeps you informed.

On what? That your fave celeb just filed her nails? Weak. -.-

(by the way, not bashing people who like Twitter; just giving my opinion, m'kay?)

Okay, I apparently DO live under a rock. Because, while I have heard of twitter, know that people are twittering, I myself haven't a fargin' clue what the hell it IS.

You know how you can do status updates on MySpace and Facebook? ('LadyBarbossa is at school', 'LadyBarbossa is playing with her dogs', etc). It's exactly like that, only just the updates showing in order as often as the person Twittering updates it. Kind of stupid and pointless, if you ask me. Frankly, I'm tired of hearing about it every time I switch on the TV

This is an internet fad I won't grab onto. The only reason I would even consider it is that Amanda Palmer uses it to keep in touch with fans, give out freebies, etc. Maybe if I had an IPhone or Blackberry or some other phone that connected me to the internets. But I really don't need to know every time that my friend is stuck in traffic or burned their toast or etc. etc. etc.

I worry more about the larger trend. We make our students go to plays and trying to get them to disconnect themselves from the teat that is technology is like pulling teeth. I mean, these kids can't go two hours without texting? And not to mention the student who brought a LAPTOP and was checking Facebook during the show. Yeah.

It's a little tricky to describe Twitter, because different people use it for different things. I myself have two accounts to use for different things: one personal, one for political stuff. Some companies use it for marketing (lame!) or to interact with customers(awesome)--Southwest Airlines has a great presence on Twitter. I use Twitter for several reasons: 1) it's the fastest way to get news, 2) I have been able to connect with people I would normally have no chance of meeting, such as the Mars Rover team at Jet Propulsion Labs, and 3) to share information quickly. Well, there's also 4), to giggle insanely at the ramblings of fictional characters who tweet, but that's just me...

I don't need to be that informed. Especially not about celebrities of all people. -.-

I have to agree with GK there. Unless Anna Paquin or Kirsten Dunst are twittering pictures of themselves in bikinis (or less), I could give two giraffe shits.

I don't follow most celebrities, because I couldn't care less about them! There are a few I follow, like Stephen Fry and Neil Gaiman, because they actually have interesting things to say. But if someone isn't interesting to read, I don't follow them.

I'm just saying that's why some people enjoy it. There are some big names out there, and it's fun.

I follow some of the Harry Potter actors who seem very nice, and inform of their daily tasks sometimes.

I just like it because sometimes I need a source to vent a sentence or two, and I can text it from work or elsewhere.

I actually started using it because one of my favorite webcomic artists has been using it to tell a really interesting story, one line at a time. It's a kind of art form, to shape each event that happens within just a single sentence.

And there are some crafting people who post there whenever they finish a new project, and I love looking at interesting craft projects.

That's about it. I occasionally post some random crap myself, just kind of because I can, but it's about once a week, if that. I can't really imagine using it as my primary form of interaction with the internet, that'd be crazy-making.
