I think the peeing is a territorial problem. She only pees on soft things, such as the couch cushions and my computer chair. My former kitty used to do the same thing - it's weird how many things she has in common with him.
As far as previous owners are concerned, I don't know if she's ever had any. She had a litter of kittens, but she and the kittens contracted a virus; the kittens died, and she was very sick for some time. Maybe this contributes to the neediness. I don't know.
She also pees on things when I'm not around; I've never caught her at it, and this morning, I saw her using the litterbox, so I think it's behavioral. A real pain, though.
