I have an idea along the lines of Kitchen Nightmares...

...although, this being the US it would probably never fly. My idea is a show similar to Hotel Inspector/Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares (UK version), but dealing with independent retail.

This concept pops up after witnessing firsthand the cluelessness that got me fired from GameStore for wanting a new venture to work. I've been in/seen a fair number of small stores where the owners either do not have a clue, or seriously want it to work but have just made so many mistakes that they're up to their eyeballs. I've also seen a fair number of cool stores close in the past few months. I feel that something like this would actually help independent business owners in the long run.

Most small business owners don't want suggestions from other people. I watched my fiance's family business crash & burn because his dad insisted he knew what he was doing.

There's nothing inherent in the US to keep it from working - Ramsay is doing a season (or more) here in the US anyway. How he manages, sometimes - in his position, I'd wind up washing my hands of them after the first day, usually.

Hence my disclaimer that it would never fly. When GameStore was in a financial pickle, the owner was talking about letting customers/employees become shareholders in the store, but that idea crashed and burned because...he didn't want to be told how to improve things (interestingly, the day after that proposal was made I was shooting the breeze with Cool Night Manager and a couple customers, and between the five of us we came up with a workable plan).
