Or: Who needs family when I've got love like this?
You know, none of my family is around me. The closes relative I have to me is at least 6 hours away. Even my fiance, the elusive Sir, is currently in Maryland. My son is in Lower Alabama, and I'm in Louisville. Needless to say, I was NOT looking forward to mother's day this year. Add to this the money that Sir had left me from his last pay check before leaving for job corps has run out, as has the food that we bought before he left on 4/21. I mean, there was still some left, but not a lot, and ZERO money.
Anyway, I went out with a couple of friends yesterday, not planning to eat, but just sit and enjoy their company. After all, I didn't have any money, so I wasn't going to eat. That's how it works, right? Right? Apparently not. D, my adopt-a-mom, pushed a $20 across the table and said "Get a drink (I'd only ordered water) and get something to eat, and don't argue"
What do you say to that?! After we ate, she said that she was kidnapping me to her house for the night, and I was going to spend mother's day at her house with her and her husband and their kids. OK, I love spending time with D. She's one of my best friends. So on our way out there, we stop at her sister's house to drop off her birthday present, and D's BIL had managed to get a trojan on their MONTH OLD COMPUTER. (If you guessed porn you'd be right.) So I fixed his computer, he's supposed to pay me $50 this coming week, cause his wife was about to kill him lol.
ANNNNYYY way, this is getting long sooo. We finally get to D's after stopping at my place to feed my kittens and get me some clothes. D and I stay up all night, talking, watching Nick @ Nite, reliving the past (we didn't grow up together, but on the same kind of stuff), and playing cards. We finally went to sleep around 6am, and got up at about 1:30pm today.
We spent the day playing cards again and D made dinner, wouldn't let me help, and I just had fun chatting with her and her sons and their friends. It really took me back to the mother's days when I was in middle school and my big brother would have all of his friends over and we'd all plant mom's flowers for her and she'd grill out after. It brought back awesome memories, made me really happy and I didn't have a single minute to be sad all day. I even talked to my own mom after we ate dinner
Finally, I have to head home cause I've got to get up early in the morning for work (I'm actually going to bed after I finish posting this). D and I pack up and get in her car to head back to my place, but she says we've got one more stop to make before we get to my house. Okay...... I'm a little worried, cause she'd been talking about another surprise for me, and that I wasn't allowed to argue. Can you guess where she took me? That's right.. She took me to Krogers to do some grocery shopping. She told me if I didn't put stuff in the cart she would, and I wasn't allowed to argue. We walked out of there with about $98 worth of groceries, not to mention the close to $60 in cash she put in my purse and refused to take back, or the umbrella she bought me so that I wouldn't get totally soaked if it was raining during my 1/2 mile walk to work from my bus stop.
What do you say when someone says "I AM going to buy you groceries, and you're not going to argue." ? All I could do was say thank you... Ahhh everybody talks about the family you're given. Well none of them are around me, but I've got chosen family out the wazoo, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I'll pay her back one day...
So D, if you ever read this, know that I love you and your kids and T. Ya'll mean the world to me, and I don't know what I'd do without you guys! Happy mother's day adopt-a-mom!
