  • Officially On Drugs!

    Yep, that's me!

Two Saturday nights ago, I got a little too intoxicated, and when I got home, I must have curled up like a cat, with my head in my chest, because I woke up the next morning with a pain like no other in my neck and upper shoulders. My neck was so stiff, it was as if I dry swallowed a Viagra.

I figured it would take a few days to straighten itself out. So I gave it a few days, and then a week. A week of double/triple doses of Aleve and Ibuprofen, which did nothing but tune out the pain, making it a little more tolerable and easier to do my job and go through my day to day life.

Of course, sleeping is no fun. It's not that I can't fall asleep, it's that I HAVE to sleep flat on my back with my head slightly elevated, straight as a board to sleep. I hate sleeping on my back. I like to sleep on my tummy or in the fetal position.

So I went to the doctor this morning. The doctor at work that you can see for free (it beats paying $20 to see my regular doctor and get sent away being told that it's all in my head and "Just take some ibuprofen and you'll be fine). He actually felt my neck and listened to what I had to say. He was very nice and caring.

He wrote me a prescription for Tramadol and Cyclobenzaprine. It's about a week's worth of meds in both. He said if things aren't any better by next week, I'll have to get a refill and possibly seek physical therapy and if my neck starts interfering anymore with my work, be placed on medical restriction (meaning I won't be able to do anything but sit ALL shift long).

I took my first dose of Tramadol an hour and a half ago, and still feel a ton of pain. I won't be taking the Cyclo unless it's bedtime......so in a few hours, but definetly not when I have to be fully awake and alert.

    LMAO. Thanks for the visual.

Hopefully the Cyclo (Flexeril) will help more. I know lots of people that swear by it when they are prescribed it for neck and back issues.

I haven't taken it yet, so I won't be able to provide any feedback until I wake up later tonight, but that one is definetly not going to be taken before I go to work. The last thing we need is blas falling asleep at the wheel and plowing into a field of cows.

Very true. LOL. Though not as bad as all the people around here who go to a bar, down a couple beers, take some AMBIEN (sleeping pill) and then drive home. Then they are surprised to be in the ER buttnaked on a hospital stretcher...

The pharmacist was pretty clear when she said "No alcohol" when taking these. I kept my mouth shut, I really didn't want to let her know that alcohol got me into this mess.

Just make sure you take the Flexeril every day. It doesn't work if you only take it once in awhile. I found that out when I was supposed to be taking it for my foot after an injury. I only took it when I was in pain, and it did nothing to help.

I've taken Flexeril before years ago when I was having issues with neck/shoulder/arm pain and for awhile it did fine, then my body got used to it so I was switched over to Soma.

Not familiar with the Tramadol . . . I've tried Darvacet, Percocet (which either gave me a motor in my butt and I could be up at 3 a.m. doing housework while floating in the Twilight Zone or if my tummy was empty I'd be nervous and sweating and basically freaking out,) Lorcet (which made me so sick to my stomach and sweaty I quit taking after one dose and had my doctor switch it the very next morning) and Ultracet (which I swear by.)

Pop a Soma and a Ultracet before work and I could work all day and feel okay. I wouldn't hurt all day but I also wouldn't be floating in outer space either.

I took Cyclobenzaprine twice before, and had a bad reaction both times. If you start feeling strangely, don't hesitate to talk to the doctor.

Goddess, a motor in your butt? Now that sounds..awkward......

I got some really good sleep today, after taking the Cyclo. Only woke up twice this afternoon/evening, it was because the wind was whipping so hard. These buildings are so poorly built that strong enough wind will make some really crazy noises, and I'm already a very light sleeper as is.

I really don't have issues with sleeping, lately it's just been because of the pain that I'll keep waking up.

Ouch. Sounds like something that happened to me a while back.

Hope your meds do as well for you as mine did for me.

Are any of those an anti-inflammatory? That (along with some pain pills) is what really helped me out.

The Tramadol is what I've been given for my headaches. It's good enough, but didn't do so much for me. Put me to sleep, though, bleh.

The Cyclobenzaprine might work better. I haven't had any experience with it though, so I can't say anything about it.

You can try googling the medicine names to see more about them, but it's kinda hard to know what the quality of the information is, so that's... only worth a bit.

                      Hope you feel better soon.
