  • What the hell did I do?

Cause if I'm gonna suffer for it I want to have at least enjoyed what I did to deserve it.

I was in a car accident yesterday, I was travelling in the right hand lane on the South Eastern freeway just above the Heysen tunnels (details added for the benefit of south aussies) guy to my left decides that he wants into the right lane, and decides he's not going to bother to check if there's anyone already in it, keep in mind this is at 8:30 in the morning during peak hour traffic, well numbnuts ends up trying to go through the front of my car. This makes for an interesting situation when you have a car sitting on your ass, a concrete wall on your right and you're doing 100 no one died, although I felt like killing the idiot, but my poor little car, how up until this point has never had a scratch needs a new front panel, work on the passenger side door and something structural is bent and I've been advised not to drive it until it's fixed.
If I dropped everybody who occasionally said something stupid from my list of potential partners, I wouldn’t even be able to masturbate

Aw, but look on the bright side - you had a freeway crash and you're okay. Those things can work out REALLY bad sometimes.

Do you have insurance with a rental car rider? At least you'd still be able to get around, and the other idiot is going to pay for it all.

True things could have been worse, but I'm stuck with having to borrow my mothers car, have classes all week next week, and on Tuesday I'm going to have to perform a full body sports massage with whiplash, not fun.

And as icing on the cake, my amp for my car has been fixed, but no car to put it in.

OK, just two clarifying questions for us non-aussies... I'm assuming 100 is in kilometers (because if that's miles, damn girl, you must teach me )... and the right lane is the fast lane over there right?

And if it would help, you could put the amp in my car... I would be willing to make that sacrafice

For smiley's benefit....(and any other non SA-ers on here...which is like everyone except 3 of us )

Australia uses kilometres. 110 is the maximum speed limit you can reach in Australia, but 100 is the most commonly used on freeways.
Australians also drive on the left, so it's basically keep left unless overtaking...

Dammit, I need to get my licence (I'm 18 and haven't even gotten my learners yet...in our state, you get your learners, do 50 hours with a supervising driver while holding it for a minimum of 6 months, then you get your P's, where you can drive without a supervising driver but you can't go over 100km/h.)

The spedometer in my car tells me that 100 kph is about 65 mph.

Which means that freeway speeds there are similar to freeway speeds here in sou Cali.

As an aside, screw the guy sitting on your ass. If he's so close he can't stop in time to avoid hitting you, let him hit you. A rear-ending at that speed is almost always better than any other type of collision.

Like I said in lolad's car accident thread: Cars can be replaced, people can't. I'm glad you're OK.

Damn. I got my permit and my license all within a month. Got my permit the day before my 17th birthday (which is October 1), did my 6 hours of instruction over the next week, and took my road test on October 23 (though I had taken the written test a year and a half earlier because Driver's Ed took the place of health class in 10th grade; since my birthay is late, I was only 15 when I took the written test, but it still counted when I went for my permit at 17).

Six months later I totalled my mom's car.

(Now'days there's a graduated licensing schedule in my state. I don't think you can do what I did anymore. As for why I didn't get my permit when I turned 16 like my brother did...ask my dad...)

Oh, just to make my life fun, they don't provide a rental car, the only option is to see if a crash repairer has a loan car, the one place I have a quote from won't have a car for 6-7 weeks.

And the kicker, my car can be driven locally but not on the freeway, so it's not "high priority" so it may take up to 2 weeks to get repaired, I have classes in town every day of the week for the next week and a half.

                    Ouch.

Yeah, the only time rental car is covered is between the time when the accident happens (and your car is rendered undriveable), and they make a determination on it's status. When my Volvo got trashed, I had a rental until they said, "It's too expensive to fix, so here's a check for the value," and that was the day my rental car was to be picked up. I actually managed to get them to extend the rental through the weekend, however, due to having a trip that weekend. I was very pleased with how All State (the other guy's insurance) treated me.

Well with CGU they won't provide a rental car unles it's for business ie taxe, courier or such.

They did tell me I can hire a car, keep the cost down and then apply to them for reimbursment, but they may not pay it (translation: like you'll get money out of us )
