  • auntiem got a job!

Yee haw! Been working on getting this job for two and a half months, everytime I thought they hadn't moved me to the next level they would call and have me come in for this or that. Now I finally have a start date!
In the ultimate irony of "when it rains it pours" I also got a job offer from a company I applied to just last Monday.
I took the one with better benifits - 'cause I'm a benni 'ho.

    *happy dance*

At my advancing age and with two kids, bennies are a requirement.

No doubt! I'm at that age and condition where those health care account type of plans are no good to me. I'm not covered on my SO's plan because we aren't married and we aren't the same sex - if I was a boy I'd be covered. He could be covered by mine at this company should he ever need it.

I think you should check into the insurance coverage. If your state recognizes same sex marriage and the insurance company limits coverage to married couples only, that's one thing. However, if your state does not recognize same sex marriage, then you might be able to claim gender discrimination if they only offer domestic partner benefits to same sex couples. Check the policy.

Our state is weird on that. If you are a same sex couple you can legally register with the state and you are condsidered the same as married for things like medical decisions / insurance coverage / property ownership. If you are boy / girl you can't register until you turn 55* - otherwise you have to get married.

*The age thing has to do with widow / widower pension benifits.

I'm fairly certain that if they limit "domestic partnerships" to only same-sex couples, that's just as bad as limiting same-sex couples to only getting "domestic partnerships."

It would be interesting to see someone fight for the right for opposite-sex couples to enjoy domestic partnership benefits. I'm willing to bet that the registration for domestic partnership is not the same as actually getting married.
