How old was he when you got him?
We think he was about a year and a half, we're not sure. The humane society found him on the side of the road and he had been on the streets for awhile - he was flea infested and emaciated. We're not too sure what happened with him, because we had a really hard time getting him into the cars at first - particularly my dad's truck. We had to pick all 85 lbs of him up and put him in because he was so scared.

We're wondering if he ran off during hunting (the area he was found in is quite wooded and commonly hunted in) and got lost, or if he was dropped off - hence his fear of trucks. We really don't know. He does run from the noise of a gunshot, it's just fireworks that he runs toward.

BTW, he's since gotten over his fear of trucks. There for awhile, we couldn't open any car doors around him if he wasn't going anywhere because he'd get in the car and we couldn't get him out. We'd have to take him up the street and back just so he could say he'd gone for a car ride....

      That's too funny.

Pablo used to go crazy when you'd pull out the leash. I used to hold it behind my back so he couldn't see it, and then I'd drop it a litte to make the collar jingle, and he would just go nuts. Getting the collar on him was a challenge cuz he wouldn't hold still.

My mini-Schnauzer used to love car rides, too. When we went on longer rides we actually had to give her tranquilizers because she took forever to settle down and would climb all over the car, from front to back and back to front, if you let her.

Current Aus-shep mix, Trixie is terrified of the thunder monster. Melatonin helps take the edge off, but she still shivers uncontrollably.

Previous dobie, Hook-Em (he came to us with that name!) would try to crawl behind the toilet to hide...and he was a BIG dobie!

Current Rat-Terrier, Primer (name sake and icon), goes around trying to protect and comfort all the other fuzz-butts during storms.
Everything will be ok in the end. If it's not ok, it's not the end.

The last dog we had was usually fine with storms, but one night, I was home alone and we had a really wicked one right on top of us. Loud and heavy. At this point we were in a mobile home with a metal roof, which further compounded the sound. Poor Rusty was TERRIFIED. I couldn't move anywhere without him right next to me, nearly knocking me over by rubbing up to my leg so hard.

When I went to sit down, he would be parked right next to me in a little cubby next to the big chair, just big enough for him to get into. I then told him "Okay, you can come up next to me (the chair was big enough to seat me and him side by side)." Before I could finish the sentence, he was sitting in my lap and licking my face as if to say "ThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouTHANKYOU! "

Did I mention he was a fairly large cockier spaniel? He was a big puppy.

The dog I wrote about earlier (the one who's scared of walking sticks) used to hate getting in the car. Until the first time my uncle went overseas and left him with my parents for a month. Ever since then, he loves getting in the car. Although I'm told he whimpers if they get to a certain intersection and turn left (towards the vet) instead of right (towards my parents' house).
