  • I have done the deed.

Last night, I did something I've only done one other time:

I quit the freaking government agency.

The scary thing is, I'm not worried, though I have every reason to be. My wife got her old job back by the skin of her teeth, and here I am quitting my job. I don't have another one lined up yet.

But, I couldn't stay there. As I've mentioned in this forum many times, I hated that place. Lately, it was taking a turn for the worse. I'd get stressed just thinking of work, my stomach turned sour, and I got bad headaches. When the nightmares started, I knew I needed out.

So that's that. I'm looking for a new job now. I have a friend whose bother does construction. He may be able to get me on his crew as labor. That won't be so bad. If not, there's other places to go.
I have a...thing. Wanna see it?

My BIL is in the construction business--specifically roofing. Not as much new construction but more repairs. His work is picking up. Also, our tax school starts in the fall.
I'm trying to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my keister!

Sweety - you're totally right about the stomach aches and nightmares. When you fight yourself to get out of bed and go to work - it's time.

I will wish you lots of luck and cross my fingers. BTW: when you do a manual labor-ish job, it feels better IMO. You can sweat out your GRRS of the day and toss boxes like it's Customer Heads rolling.

Good luck, and use sunscreen if you're outside.

I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers but know what? When work -- or the thought of work -- makes you physically ill, it's time to move on, no matter what the consequences.

Check local stores and restaurants. You never know who may be hiring, even if it's just something for the meantime until you find something permanent. Call newspapers -- they may need delivery drivers. My hubby did that for awhile right out of college and it was pretty decent money. And tell all your friends / family / etc. that you are looking for a job -- you never know who might have one or have heard of one that is open. Networking is a good thing.

Good luck and keep us in the loop. I wish you all the best.

Today I filled out 3 paper applications and 2 online ones. Plus, I did persephone's (thank you!) suggestion and called the local newspaper about delivering.

I think my nightmares are over. Last night, I dreamt about Pokemon

I was considering (before my latest plan took shape) getting a forklift licence. They're always in demand.

But last year, I got my construction induction card and traffic controllers ticket, and I did some work on the roads for a while (while still here). It's easy enough to get into (over here), and I imagine not that much different over there (especially with your summer coming up - better weather, more construction/road works).
