  • Cobra lilies!

Most of you will probably eye me funny. But I am SO enthused about my plants. And I have wanted a cobra lily for practically forever. And today I got two in the mail! This fills me with glee!

They're a carnivorous plant, properly called darlingtonia californica, since there are several things that go by the name "cobra lily."

I am so completely stoked about these. Woot!

And I got lithops seedlings sprouting, and my peas are growing like mad and I finally killed all the slugs that were eating them, I think, and in general I'm up to my eyeballs in happy plants! Though my regia sundews are kind of not so happy. But they're the only thing that's not thriving right now.

I don't think these are related.

I'm filled with glee for you, spark. I laugh every time I see one of your plant-thread titles.

What can I say? I'm a weirdo, plants make me all excited. I should post my seedling photos here too, I just got some sundews and some lithops sprouting.

I was chatting with Jack earlier and I noticed this thread, and said, "Spark and her carnivorous plants are beginning to worry me.'

Before you know it my plants will have taken over! Mwa ha ha ha ha!

Speaking of taking over, I have about a bajillion lithips seedlings now! Well, okay it's around 30 or so, and they're not carnivorous, so they're hardly any danger. Here, I share:

Now these little guys are carnivores: Not even big enough to eat a gnat yet though. You can play "hunt the seedling" in this photo, I didn't circle them. There are two.

That bottom photo does not look like anything I would want to have in my house...

He he he. An imaginary pety venus fly trap? I don't know.

I got new plants today! I should post photos.

New plants that I got today:

One nepenthes alata. Well, the label just said "nepenthes, tropical pitcher plant" but I've looked at some photos and I'm pretty sure it's an alata.

Two venus flytraps, one large, one small. Both typicals, not cultivars, but that's fine.

A small sarracenia rubra, a kind of temperate pitcher plant.

A larger (though still nowhere near full size) sarracenia X Judith Hindle

The tropical pitcher will be staying indoors, the rest will eventually be planted outside, once I have them properly acclimated.

So, does anybody but me have visions of Spark feeding blood to some huge carnivorous plant?

                          O.o

                          That's kind of disturbing.

Also, I know some people who have fed blood to their plants. Apparently they happily eat it! Kind of creepy. They won't eat actual meat though, it tends to make them rot.

Do I even WANT to know why Cobra Commander is wearing magenta?!?

I mean, red is bad enough (see Sideshow Collectibles' upcoming Sandy Eggo Comic Con Exclusive Red Cobra Commander 1:6 Scale Figure to see what I'm talking about,) but MAGENTA?!?!? Seriously?!?!?

I mean, what, is he supposed to be the new spokesman for T▪ ▪ ▪Mobile▪ or something?!?!?
