    Blogging for college credit! (not really, but pretty close)

    I wish I was joking.

    I had to sign up for this class because it's a requirement for my major. thank goodness it's online so i can do the class while i'm at home drinking.

    here's an example of what we had to do...

    Quoth cis 101
    1. Find one accomplishment or achievement between 2003 and the present in the advancement of computers that is not listed. Post it in this discussion along with a reference where you found it.

    2. Reply to one other posting by a fellow classmate and state where you have seen evidence or where you observed use of the advancement or achievement they have listed.
    Yeah. That's all... basically, as long as I just jabber on about something and provide a link... and reply to someone else's post i'll get a full grade on it. (3 points max).

    yes i am laughing.
    this class is lame, but hell ... what an easy grade


    oh... i commented on Mac OSX Leopard. Apparently they mentioned a couple of other versions of osx but not the latest. made things really easy for me since i bought osx the day it came out =)

    I joined a course called communicating electronically, one of the assignments was to create a blog.
    Interviewer: What is your greatest weakness?
    Me: I expect competence from my coworkers.

      Now.. if it was creating a blog template, that'd be fun... but yeah, this class is a joke. I'm seriously considering only doing the work for this class while i'm drinking from now on. If only cos it'll make me laugh

      I mentioned that class while I was in the computer lab today. The lab assistant there started to laugh. I guess he knows how true it is.



      The only problem I really have with this class is that we have to reply to other people's answers.
      Um ok...

      Except that one of the "discussions" was simply a straight forward question: How many unique combinations can be created with 8 bits (binary digits - 0 and 1)?


      I posted my answer (256, ranging from 00000000 to 11111111). Then I saw one other person had posted an answer so I read hers to reply. ... and um... I'll wait until someone else posts. Her answer wasn't anything even *remotely* close to 256. And I'm sure I can't post "WTF?" - at least not without getting in trouble.

      But alas, no one else has posted yet. *sigh*

        Go ahead and post something along the lines of:
        "umm, are you sure? By my count, I get:
        1: 00000001
        2: 00000010
        3: 00000011
        4: 00000100"

        and list out every single one, till the end, where you say,
        "oh, and 256: 00000000"

        I think that would get the point across...
        Yeah, I'm evil that way.
        Everything will be ok in the end. If it's not ok, it's not the end.

          I feel your pain, Pepper!! I'm taking 2 online classes this summer. Both are health topics, and one is a seminar in public health issues and obesity. One would THINK that the required discussions might have some merit, right? Especially when you're required to post in discussions as part of the class grade.

          Well the rules specifically state that when the discussion topic goes up, you're required to reply to the actual topic, and then find 3 responses from classmates and respond to those as well. Also, minimum of 3 sentences per reply, to avoid people getting easy credit by simply writing "I agree!"

          So, rather than having people come up with thoughtful and debating the topic in logical and adult manners, I'll get the following.

          Me: I believe topic A is causation for topic B, based on society's standards of physical beauty, etc, etc, etc.

          Asstard's response to my posting: "I totally agree with your statement! topic b IS caused by topic A. And it IS society saying what's pretty that leads to it!


          Rather than come up with an original thought, they agree and just reword the original response until they meet the minimum criteria for credit.

          <Sigh>
