  • I dyed my hair!

First time I've ever dyed it. Naturally, my hair is brown with blonde highlights. I finally decided to go lighter. My sister helped, and now it's... I dunno. LIGHTER brown, I guess? I was a little disappointed, but I guess it's better to start slowly.

I'll probably go full blonde later. Like... I dunno. 3 months? 6 months? Seems a waste to go blonde in the winter.

Try sitting out in the sun.

My niece has dark brown hair, and every summer she manages to get it a very nice blond shade just by being outside.
    I'm bringing disdain back...with a vengeance.

Oh, and your tool box called...you got out again.

I dye my hair (naturally, it's extremely dark brown, very nearly black, and I color it a lighter red/brown usually.) My hair stylist always tells me to use a conditioner with colorstay in it (a good idea for everyone who dyes their hair) and fade-resist if I don't want it to turn any lighter in the sun. So yeah, if you want it lighter, go sit out in the sun for a while.

Remember that if you decide to go blond, you'll have to use a more powerful peroxide and leave it on longer to bring your color up lighter (the lighter you want, the longer you'll have to leave it on) which will damage your hair. So definitely use a good conditioner if you decide to do that, or your hair will turn very dry and brittle.

      Also, where are the pics??

Actually, I find that getting my hair lightened a bit during winter kinda perks me up. Everything else is blah and gray, but my hair is bright and shiny!

I also have very dark brown, almost black colored, hair. If I were to sit out in the sun (with lots of sunscreen on as I burn very easily), my hair doesn't turn blond. It turns a nice shade of reddish brown, I think. All I know is that I have TONS of red highlights in my hair. No matter what, my hair reverts back to the red. I must have been a red head in one of my past lives.

I'll put those up later, if they turned out okay.

I went and got my haircut, too, so I've got pics of both the Before and After if anyone wants them.

EDIT: And, apparently, it looks like crap. Fantastic... i try something new, and it's awful. I need a hat. T-T

Rummy - I have kinda-light brown hair, but the sun brings out the red in mine as well. My grandmother was a redhead, and I had more red for a while as a toddler. If I were inclined to spend the time and money, which I'm generally not, I would go red again.

Use something called "Sun In", or something with a similar name as I can't remember the exact name, whenever you go outside to make your hair lighter. You just spray it on your hair and let the sun make it lighter, it won't last as long as dye but it'll make your hair a lighter shade for a while.
Eh, one day I'll have something useful here. Until then, have a cookie or two.

Don't use the Sun-In products. They will seriously damage your hair. If your hair is med brown to any darker, consult a hair specialist, particularly one who specializes in color, to handle lightening your hair color. Especially if you are looking at going blonde. Depending on the current shade of color you are, it could take more than 1 treatment to get it to the lighter shade you desire. Adding color at home is one thing, but going blonde (taking out color and adding in the blondes/golds/etc) requires a little more care.

                      Good luck.

Not to mention that Sun-In can and will turn your hair ORANGE. It's not pretty....trust me, I know.

I saw the pics earlier, and I thought it looked great!

I took down the pics because it didn't seem like anyone was looking at them, and I didn't want to just leave them here.

                          So here they are again.

                          These are my old hairs:

                          These are my new hairs.

I picked up a thin hair-straightener today, so it won't look quite so wild when I go to work. Second pic is seriously poofy for me. ><
