  • Certification Frustration

When I completed my college degree, I was eligible to sit for two board exams: the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) and the NMTCB (Nuclear Medicine Certification Board). I took the second of the two (NMTCB) May 18th and my printout from the exam stated I should have my official results within three weeks. I still don't have either of my official reports for either exam, so I called up the NMTCB office today and was told my results were sent out YESTERDAY. For anyone counting, that's FOUR WEEKS after my exam date BEFORE THEY EVEN SENT IT OUT! Needless to say, I am pissed. While I have an unofficial score for the NMTCB, I have no proof other than my word that I am ARRT certified. I kinda need the official cards for employment purposes. If their literature tells me I should have results in three weeks, I better get those results in three weeks. Not have them sent out four weeks after the fact. Grrrr.....

And the ARRT will be getting a phone call if my results for their test aren't in my mailbox tomorrow as tomorrow will be four weeks post exam date. Which is the minimum allowable time.

I SOO feel your pain. I'll start my own thread but my school f'ed up me getting license and taking my boards big time.

Did you already get a job and do/can they give you a grace period?

For graduate nurses, we can work 6 mos - 1 year without sitting for the exam or getting our licenses.

Unfortunately, no job for me yet. 'Tis very frustrating. In theory, my print-out that I passed the NMTCB should be enough, but I went ahead and paid for a temporary state license to tide me over.

Incidentally, nurses in my state have to work 120 hours under a "preceptor nurse" before they can be fully licensed. Thank goodness the authorities changed the rules to allow graduates to take the NCLEX before acquiring those 120 hours. When my dad graduated, he had to wait until he completed the 120 hours. Pretty sure the dismal failure rates made them see reason.

I obviously don't know any of the regulations/laws pertaining to such things over there, but in Aus, the government has legislated maximum amounts of time that RTO's have in getting results/qualifications to graduates... so they can't just be left hanging. I think 4 weeks falls within that timeframe..

But I know how annoying it is to have to wait so long... I hope I don't have that problem with my most recent course, I've got an employer wanting to see a copy of my certificate...

          Updateyness!

NMTCB results were in my mailbox the day after I called. Yay! Unfortunately, I STILL do not have my ARRT results. Apparently there was some kind of paperwork snafu (AKA, ARRT lost our program confirmation because C faxed them the paperwork weeks ago when they asked for it), so the results couldn't be sent out until my instructor cleared it up. She did last week. Today is 6 weeks since I've taken the stupid test, so I called AGAIN to see what's up. Lady said it will go out on Friday.

Now, I'm not very knowledgable about these things, but it seems to me that if all they were waiting on was confirmation that I have indeed graduated, it should not take a week and a half to put the envelope in the mailbox. They also can't give my my ID number over the phone so I can check it online, even though I've already verified my birthdate and social. Fark, I am so fed up with getting the run around.
