  • Aerial Feline Engagement

So in my eternal quest to keep my cat occupied so she'll let me sleep on work days, I have purchased an aerial assault unit with which to engage her in air to ground combat. An RC helicopter.

However, not all is going according to plan. She spent the first hour hiding from it. Which was far from the normal "If it moves, kill it. Than eat it if its smaller than my head" approach she has. After that she stared at it intently....from a distance. Plotting some way to engage it.

Now she only strikes at it when its not airborne. I assume in an attempt to murder it in its "sleep"

Compounding the problem is the damn thing is as hard to fly as a real helicopter. I swear. I have crashed it into every possible object and piece of furniture in my house so far. I am almost feel sorry for it.

If I wear a fighter pilot my callsign would be "Lawn Dart". ><

Anyone have one of these things or attempted to fly one before? I slowly getting the hang of it, but damn. Harsh learning curve.

    Me.

I am horrible at it. One time i sent it into the ceiling fan. Luckily it didnt break, it just flew across the room and slammed into a corner just over my son's head. lol

My dog likes to bat at it as it flys. My husband can control it and even land it on top of the bookshelf and table!!! He summons demon powers for that, i think.

My fiance has one, but while one of our cats is terrified of it, the other two find it utterly fascinating. And yeah, he mostly just crashes it.

Is that the Havoc or something similar? The mini-RC helicopter? I have one of those.
I have a...thing. Wanna see it?

Personally I want to get the little pop gun I saw at the grocery store so I can shoot my cats with it... it shoots marshmallows!

Yeah, the "Advanced" one with the rear propulsion fans. The Reflex I think it is?

            This one:

Biggest problem I'm having is simply finding the sweet spot to make it hover on the throttle. Usually it lifts off slowly at first than heads towards the ceiling as if summoned by God. But ease off the throttle even a millimeter and it plummets.

I've tried barely easing it up till it just starts to take off but it still does the same thing ( accelerates up and into the ceiling for hours of fun ). Confounded machine. ;p

Having the ThinkGeek Flying Fuck, I know how hard it can be to control these things.

I've found the best way to do it is to be reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeal easy on the "up". It does take a while to get the hang of it. I've bounced mine off just about everything in the place here - including me and the dog.

I would love to have one of those! For the cats, anyways.

Of course one of my cats would run for the hills just at the mere sight of it, he's a chicken. The other would probably start chasing after it if there was a string attached.

Then again I'd probably be more amused by it then my cats would. How much does it cost generally?
Eh, one day I'll have something useful here. Until then, have a cookie or two.

This one is 80 bucks normally, but I caught it on sale for 60 at Toys R Us.

They have smaller $25 ones that don't have directional control as well if you just wanna hover around. But I took one look at their tiny, thin little bodies and figured the cat would annihilate it inside of 10 minutes.

I don't get it. How could you be flying it for her if you're asleep? (Forgive me; I don't think in geek, I guess.)

I mean attempting to fill her entertainment quota ( and wear her out ) on my days off. Else she's at me all week when I'm trying to sleep because she's hyper.

She's barely 2 so she's still very kittenish. Also, mentally unstable.

Shoot... I can hit up the Micro Center in Rockville, MD for the classic SPUD GUN from when we were kids! That's right! You can shoot your cats with pellets made from POTATOES!

That's Canadian money, so in real money that would be....what....$3.50?

Does she chase laser pointers at all? Do you have a ceiling fan? If so, I suggest combining these two. Tape a laser pointer onto the fan and turn it on.

Cats chase the weirdest things. Mine were always into tin foil and those little tabs off the top of milk cartons more than their store-bought toys.

I can't help with the helicopter at all. I'm bad with them too. However, if you get it working, I strongly suggest videotaping the ensuing battle and linking us to it.
