  • Camcorder recommendations?

I figure this is as good a place to ask as any. ^^

I'm pondering video production which may or may not be part of a possible elaborate scheme to earn a position at ThatGuyWithTheGlasses.com.

However, this requires a device with which to capture my soul in. But whilst I am a geek, video equipment is not generally something I gave a rat's arse about. Does anyone have a camcorder in a decent price range that they'd recommend?

I've been looking at a lot of low-mid range cams, and some mini-cams. But with the mini-cams especially it seems like every brand has some horrific flaw you need to work around. ><

If you're looking for something to start out and to copy to the computer, my wife and I got a "Flip" ($100-$200 at Best Buy) to take the schutzhund training videos (and other videos). Not bad, they hold 60-120 minutes of video and they plug straight into the PC.

All of those (except the oldest one- obvious since it is "off color") are from the Flip. It's good and easy to use if you're not expectinv anything overly high end (especially for a beginner).

Yeah, I considered the Flip, but was a bit underwhelmed by some of the vids I saw due to dropped frames. The Kodak zi6 is utterly awful however. The Creative Vado looks alright.

But I don't think any of them have an external mic jack do they? I'm worried about sound quality foremost me thinks. Since I must talk.

Not seeing a lot of frame drops or blurring in your vids, what model Flip is that on?

PSV-552 I think (no obvious model on the outside - this is by the batteries). It was $150 around January. The $200 now I think has 2 hours of video on it (this one stores 60 minutes).

Well, I don't need to shoot continuously for that long so that's good enough. No mic jack on it though, eh? How's the sound indoors?
