Oh hell no! I've got cats to feed, car insurance to pay, and other things to keep me alive.

    Hell no!

But then it wouldn't be called working, it would be volunteering.

No. Would you pay for no work?

    NO!!!!!!

If they can't afford to pay me, then lay me off and I can get unemployment.

There isn't enough hours in the day right now for me to get all my stuff done at home. Why would I want to be coming to work for free, no wait I would have to pay to come to work (gas for car, lunch, etc) when I could actually get some stuff accomplished at home.

I did wonder when you'd see this PKAH, and I figured you'd probably fall off your chair laughing when you first heard about it!

I voted for HELL NO. Just maybe if the company was willing to pay my bills and gave me a gas card, until I got paid again. But I highly doubt that.

Hell to the no! Not when the CEO is making some $23 mil a year. I'd rather get another job.

No. No. No. FUCK YOU NO!

If I work for free, its some charity work, and it's my own time - I can do whatever I feel like.

Lets see the suits that have $500,000 worth of cars in their garage spend a few months working for free before asking us grunts to do it. Sadly these days 1 Suit = 7-10 grunts.

    Must. Avoid. Rant. Now.

    To state the obvious:

    HELL NO!

I don't care if the company is going tits up, I've worked my hours and earned my pay, and you'd damn well better pay me! If you couldn't have afforded to pay me, then why wasn't I laid off?

I don't work for free, under any circumstances. Even if I was rich as Bill Gates, I wouldn't. Sure, I'd be philanthropic and all that, but I still wouldn't work for free, because my name ain't Charity! I'd donate to charity, but I won't be one![/rant]

The only way I'd work for free was if someone else was taking care of all my expenses. So hell no.
    My thoughts exactly.

Besides, I don't like my place of employment enough to do that.

Agreed. I don't work for free cuz get this, I don't get food for free, electricity for free, rent for free, petrol for free... etc etc etc.
Me either, hence my NO vote. Do you really believe that the organization will give back pay when it returns to profitability?

Not only No, but HELL NO.

University wants to save some money? Have Coach Self work a year with no pay, I'm sure he can afford it. I work for ridiculously low wages as it is...and I actually make more than many other GTA's in the humanities.

No because I absolutely can not afford to. If a company can't pay its employees then it really shouldn't be in business, its time to close shop.

Last year staff at JCB were asked to cut their hours. Redundancies followed a few months after that. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/s...re/7824718.stm

I know I'd be pretty pissed off if I cut my hours/worked for free and then was still laid off.

At the start of this year the GM cut payroll hours and I was really struggling to pay my bills. I really wouldn't volunteer to go through that.
